Debug code dF
I'm upgrading from MSI Z97 XPower AC to X299 M7 Gaming ACK

I've installed an Intel Core i9 10900X and 32 GB RAM on the X299 mobo.

Unfortunately i haven't been able to get in the bios.
Mobo has power, fans are spinning, everything seems fine but i can only see two debug codes during post.

06 : (Microcode loading) and then it jumps to code DF,

there's no description in the code table for DF.
So i have no clue what it means...

I've already tried diagnostic troubleshooting, such as removing everything until the bare minimum.

PC just keeps hanging on the DF code.

I'm beginning to fear the worst, like sending the mobo back for repair, not sure how long this will take with the corona outbreak....

So, if anyone knows more about what i could do to fix this, please enlighten me.

If I had to guess, might require a BIOS update since it's a new CPU that hasn't been out for long but a pre-existing chipset.

Ok, i can fairly rule out that i have broken components (faulty cpu or ram, etc )

Follow up question :
how to update the bios without being able to enter the bios in the first place ?

i already downloaded the latest bios, drivers & utilities from MSI support because i never use the included dvd... (so i was prepared)

I just didn't realize the age difference between mobo and cpu could cause an issue

If the motherboard has a USB port (usually color coded as white IIRC) designed for flashing BIOS without a CPU, like Gigabyte Q-Flash Plus, you can install the latest BIOS file onto a USB stick and use the flashback port to update BIOS.

So it will auto-execute an update with a usb dongle... even if screen, keyboard and mouse are not working because they're not detected yet.

i'm gonna prepare the usb flash drive and see if this solution works to recognize the cpu

Nice, thanks for the info and help Escorve and Wampum Biskit, you're great !
