Do GPU manufacturers also fake Dual Link DVI connectors (24-pin single link) the way cable/plug manufacturers do? Or does anybody have a Colorful iGame GPU @1440p @ DVI?

I've just bought a used monitor (Dell DELL 3007WFPT, which is like the WFP-HC version) that can go 2560x1600 at 60hz. DVI-D (Dual Link) is its only connector, so I'm worried. I've already tried an HDMI-DVI adapter or converter (can't tell), as well as pixel-clock-patched single-link DVI from my GPU, to no avail. The thing stops at 1280x800.

This gets me stressed. What if the 24 pins on my GPU's DVI port are only there for show? I know there are Display Port to Dual Link DVI active converters, but those things are awfully expensive.

I haven't tried a proper Dual Link DVI cable yet because I've only just ordered it and am still waiting for it to arrive (might take a couple of days). Do I have a reason to worry?

You might see some no-name chinese graphics card manufacturers use DVI dual link connectors in place of normal DVI connectors because they already have the dual link connectors on hand. But I can't imagine any mainstream graphics card manufacturer doing so.

Ensure your graphics card isn't a fake.

Some people (mostly selling on eBay) will offer you a fake graphics card for cheap. It's however an older model, with a reflashed firmware. The card design, ports and actual specs don't match up. The performance will also suffer greatly.

You can download and run a small app called "GPU-Z" which displays your PC specs. It will also detect your graphics card and the updated version of it knows about fakes.

I doubt you can connect your monitir this way. HDMI-DVI converter should add latency so you should not be able to synchronise this two video sources. But I never tried to do this myself. So, this is nothing more than a "common sence". Without personal experience it means nothing.

However, saying that, a single link cable can still be backwards compatible and plugged into a duel-link port... it just won't have the bandwidth to support it fully.

DVI single vs duel link are pretty much the same, except Single link DVI supports a maximum bandwidth of 165 MHz (1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz, 1280 x 1024 at 85 Hz) and only utilizes 18 of the 24 available pins.

Hopefully it's just a matter of the cable bandwidth. Ez fix and no worries.

Googling the display, it shows up as a common issue. It's a finicky display and will only display the higher resolution as an option if it detects a dual link dvi connection, converters mess it up.

When your cable arrives, it should work fine.

Chances are it's the cable and adapter/converter you're trying. Wait till the proper DVI Dual Link cable arrives as that should fix the issue.

It's the tech. I have been down this path with my rtx card and dvi-d dual monitor and found out the answers from posts on the web about the problem.

DP definitely, and HDMI I think as well, don't have the same number of pins that DVI-D Dual has (24). The expensive active converters create the extra signals from the other signals, which is why they cost a lot. Cheap converter cables will work but only at the equivalent of 1920x1080 60hz or similar. I read that even the DP to dvi-d cables included with some rtx cards only work at 60hz.

A true DVI-D Dual cable (both ends are the same) should work. Again there are cheap cables sold which don't work as they just have the DVI-D plugs but not the wiring. It's a common problem. If you look at cables on Amazon the comments sections contain posts from dvi-d dual users stating if it works or not. Most of the good ones have gold plugs and cost a little bit more.
