HyperX Cloud II

So I bought them slightly on a whim, saw many positive reviews boasting sound quality far beyond what one would expect at the price, comfortable etc. They are very comfortable and they feel well made, listening to them though, I'm baffled. Bluntly, they sound awful. I noticed immediately the sharp, tinny treble and lack of punch to the bass, I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I have a £30 pair of JVC headphones that blow the HyperX's out of the water.

I was thinking it must be a defective pair but after googling the issue and seeing others say the same as me, I'm not so sure. Is there something I can do to try and improve the sound? Are they defective, or am I a fool to buy them?

You could try and contact the company you bought them off and get a refund? But if that doesn't work I guess all you can really do is give them a poor rating. Never buy cheap headphones, they are almost always a waste of money.

Just curious but what model are your JVC headphones, do they say anywhere on them?

JVC HA-MR60X XX-series

Just to clarify the JVC's are very good for £30. I was expecting similar audio on the HyperX's, which are £70.

I have weaker JVC HA-S600 headphones for my phone, I need to upgrade too. What you want to look for headphones that have specs that say "Impedance - 40 Ohm/Ω". (Although I think there is more to headphones than just impedance...)

To give you an idea your JVC HA-MR60X have an impedance of 20 Ohm/Ω, although do not get anything higher than 50 Ohm/Ω or you will need an amp to power it (which would sound even better but cost even more money). Either way always look up reviews before you buy anyway.

Are you using the included in-line audio card thing (or whatever its called)? DUMP it. Its trash. It completely destroys all audio quality.

I have had like 3 cloud 2’s and they are perfect as long as i plug them in directly with 3.5mm jack.

I did initially, then I tried it without. Both sounded the same :/

The problem with gaming headsets is that they all generally have pretty bad sound quality and mediocre microphones. Honestly, you would be better off buying your music headphones of choice and pairing it with an external mic of some sort like an AntLion Modmic or a Blue Yeti.

Are you using any kind of audio equalizer? It's kinda required to get the best audio with pretty much any headset or even speakers.

My motherboard came with Realtek HD Audio Manager so i use that to boost the bass, works perfectly.

But there are probably other programs available too.

I wouldn't be surprised. A lot of gaming headsets sound like crap.

If possible just return the Cloud headset and get a cheap lapel mic. I am using a Zalman ZM-Mic1 with my Samson SR850, sounds better than my son's hyperx revolver IMO...

I have a pair of HuperX Cloud II but dont found a audio problem with them. My issue with that headset is that the cable constantly curled and the sound got glitched(after a couple of months listening). I dont use them anymore as i got a better headset but the audio is similiar to my Sennheiser headset, without equalizer which wasnt all that bad for me.

Do make sure you either connect them directly to the computer or use some sort of other sound card device. Don't use the usb dongle that came with them in the box, it's terrible. I ditched mine and I use my Cloud II's on a SPDIF cable and a Turtle Beach Earforce DSS (not the DSS2, that's worse than the usb dongle). It's quite a lot better and really lets these headphones shine.

At the very least bypass the usb thing and connect it to the headphone port on your computer directly for a little while and try that.
