kind of yeah. you need thermal paste.

You mean they need to reapply thermal paste.

For some CPUs it's fine.
For some CPUs it's not.

They all have a different Tj Max (throttle temperature).

The throttle temperature of your CPU is 100°C.

9th Generation 14 nanometer i7 9700K / i5 9600K (TDP 95W / Idle 2W), 8th Generation 14 nanometer i7 8700K / i5 8600K (TDP 95W / Idle 2W), 7th Generation 14 nanometer i7 7700K / i5 7600K (TDP 91W / Idle 2W), 6th Generation 14 nanometer i7 6700K / i5 6600K (TDP 91W / Idle 2W): Tj Max (Throttle temperature) = 100°C

Your CPU isn't going to do or anything. Provided it's only hitting those temps while playing demanding games, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.
i was hitting those temps on prime95 and cinebench
fauxtronic eredeti hozzászólása:
Well that's even better. You *really* have nothing to worry about if it's not getting within 15 degrees of Tj Max during a stress test.
thanks for the help

What type of cooling do you have on it?

While 85c isn't too dangerous it's still kinda hot.

Why didn't you say that in the first place?

Hitting 85C in Prime95 isn't bad with that cooler.

A bit on the toasty side, yes.
fauxtronic eredeti hozzászólása:
That would be the OC limit for me. My rule of thumb is to always ensure there is 10°C of 'buffer' space between the stress temperature and TjMax.

If I wanted to try and take it higher I would have to get better cooling.

I heard that the 120mm liquid coolers aren't exactly beneficial anyway.

I'm running i9 9900k on a corsair h100i V2 at 25-30c on balanced settings, in my eyes your temps are crazy. My GPU even when rendering 3D scenes runs at 45c at max.
Now run Prime95 and see what happens.

U live in the Arctic by chance ?

My h110i is able to keep my i7 8700k at 50-60c
My 1080ti is stuck at 70c

What is the point of posting temperatures if you aren't going to put them in context?

Is that idle, gaming or during stress tests?
It's fine, there was someone here running his cpu at 100°C without problems because he didnt care.

Depends how quick you want your eggs to cook.
