Computer freezes with a static noise.
Currently dealing with a computer freezes for the pass month, determining whatever or not my motherboard are causing these problems.

The problem usually starts after extended use, or happens randomly while on the computer. Once that happens, it leaves a static noise from my earphones and the screen, mouse, and keyboard stop responding. After shutdown the computer by holding down the power, it runs normal until it freeze again.

Previous thread told me to check if the RAM is causing it, and after two 4 passes, no error. So, next was the driver for my GPU that causing the problem. Try various drivers and the freezes still continues. Now I tested both the CPU and hard-drive if one of them aren't causing it, thankfully both are fine.

Now, I'm at this point if the motherboard are causing the computer to freeze up. Here are the specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: MSI H110M Pro-VD Micro ATX LGA1151
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2400
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
GPU: MSI Radeon RX 480 4GB GAMING X
PSU: Antec EarthWatts Green 650W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX
OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit

First thing, look at...

Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Applications

Ok so looking up at application logs and no error or warning after the lastest freeze.

And in the System section of the Windows Logs?

Which error log do I need to look at?

The critical ones are a good start.

Kernal Power is never a good sign.
I'd be looking to try a different Power Supply.

Alright, I'll try to get a different PSU. Any recommendation of what power supply I should get? Also, can I use this power supply for now until I get a new one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182066

If it has the PCI-E connectors that 480 needs, sure you can test it.
But i wouldnt use it for gaming.

First I'd unisnstall your sound drivers and install the newest ones as those can cause issues like this if they are corrupted. http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/ choose the high def audio codec

Next would be to make sure your computer fans are not plugged up with dust and or pet hair and are spinning as they should especially your CPU cooler fan. Heat can also cause the issues you describe. I'd start with those 2 things before spending money. Get a can of compressed air if needed and blow your fans out, even the ones on your GPU. Try to hold the fans from spinning if you can as the super high RPM's caused by compressed air is not good for them.

Those are only standard drivers
Customized Drivers for his motherboard would need to be downloaded from the boards manufacturer.

But they'll do the trick to see if thats the problem.

Chances are its the RAM or Powersupply though.

90% of the time "customized drivers" just means they put their logo on the software control panel somewhere. :steamhappy:
And if MSI did happen to mess with the sound drivers which I highly doubt that'd be even more cause to suspect the sound drivers.

Also OP what did you use to test the memory, windows built in tester or something like memtest.

Ok I performed a RAM test with the window memory diagnostic and 4 passes later, no error. Even if I did the memtest, it will gives me same result with no error. As for heating, barely any dust aren't collecting inside the fans.

Now with the sound driver, I reinstall with the newer version of realtek and waiting to see if the crashe/freeze happens again. Will get back to you if it happens.

Realtek HD Audio Drivers, get from Realtek. It doesn't matter what Motherboard or Laptop you have.

The ones from the OEM part maker are the same; they are usually also older. Cause they will cease to update as often, or as long. Generally 1-2 years after hardware release, then that is all.

By memtest I meant a program off the internet that has been the standard for memory testing for years. Windows memory diagnostic just does not stress the memory fully and thus may not give accurate results.

Here is a tutorial on how to install and use it if needed. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/14201-memtest86-test-ram.html
They say at least 8 passes but just running it over night or over night and during the day while you are at work or school will be plenty I have found.

Keep in mind to use a new or USB flash drive you do not mind losing what is on it as it will be erased. So a new one or one with something on it just temporarily move it all to your hard drive or something.

Windows Memory Diag is fine, however you don't use the defaults it loads up with; when it launches change the test to Extended and 5 Pass or more.
