nVidia can uninstall the drivers, but DDU is like the GDI orbital cannon, with surgical precision on top. It removes every single trace of nVidia drivers from your system. Very handy if you have issues. Generally, it's not needed for updating, downgrading or reinstalling your drivers. But a great tool for troubleshooting.

Never had a problem with just clicking the 'clean install'
The only time I used DDU it buggered up my computer.

clean install does not remove the driver... it only removes the settings even descriped as such at the Nvidia Installer.

There are tons of ways to uninstal drivers, DDU is one of the better ways of doing it.

since current gpu drivers are not just a driver ldd and config cpl, its also several exes with other dlls and config locations windows uninstall routine does not clean everything

ddu is one of the better ways, it remove any traces of current and previous driver versions
cleans amd/ati/nvidia/intel drivers from windows registry, \windows\., \program files..\, \users\ ect..

just make sure windows update is turned off or getting drivers from the internet is disabled when it reboots before you install the correct driver

I've been using DDU for the past 5 years without a single issue. There's a higher chance of losing PC files from windows updates than using DDU.

"Keep note that NVIDIA/AMD did not have anything to do with this, I do not work at or for NVIDIA/AMD and they should not be held responsible for anything that may go wrong with this application."

You MUST disconnect your internet or completely block Windows Update when running DDU until you have re-installed your new drivers.
DDU should be used when having a problem uninstalling / installing a driver or when switching GPU brand.
DDU should not be used every time you install a new driver unless you know what you are doing.
DDU will not work on network drive. Please install in a local drive (C:, D: or else).
The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best.
If you are using DDU in normal mode, Clean, reboot, clean again, reboot.
Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe).
It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues.

I'll hedge my bets with Windows uninstall. It works just fine without all of those warnings and preparation. Anything telling you to exclude it's folder from a virus scan seems pretty suspect in my opinion. I wouldn't do it. You're just uninstalling a program and drivers why bother with this?

Because i like to freshly install drivers each time a new driver comes out.
Like i said before, i've been using it for years, and it never caused any issue's on my end, in fact Geforce Experience is like plague. I used it once, to install the latest drivers, and i had nothing but issue's. After i used DDU again with the very same drivers, all problems were gone. I only Use Geforce Experience to record, but if it didn't had that option i would have uinstalled right away.

Also best way to use DDU, is to run it in safe mode. And after it cleaned out all the video drivers, it will reboot, and i can install the latest drivers right away.

Also a DDU user here, having downloaded it straight from the developer (Wagnardsoft) and scanned the extracted exe with two security software. As an example, I had problems w/latest NVIDIA driver so I DDU'd it in safe mode and ended up with a removal of an additional 1.5 GB of garbage from previous NVIDIA installations. You can manually uninstall it or install over the top (if you're brave) or use Programs and Features. I prefer DDU since I'm comfortable with the routine.

If you don't trust the binary download the source code and compile it yourself. It's a open source program. You can't trust on anti virus software, it can make mistakes or not detect something malicious.

If you do insist on using anti virus software because compiling something yourself is too complicated I recommend this site, it will run a ton of AV software on it: https://www.virustotal.com/

Anyone having an issue with people using DDU should actually do more research instead of stating false opinions as Facts.

DDU is well known and widely used by the PC community as a whole
Hell, even Linus, Jay and GN use DDU
-

Also, for using the "Clean Install" option when installing an NVIDIA driver, that is not the same as using DDU and doing a clean install. It does merely what it says it does, resets the NVIDIA CP settings, it does not do anything more than that.

So to uninstall drivers Is better to use ddu instead of going to controll panel?

Yes, DDU will make sure everything is gone. The uninstallers often leave files behind which can cause issues when you reinstall the drivers again or these remaining files might cause the same issue you were experiencing again.

When troubleshooting I recommend to just use DDU to be sure. When switching GPUs I also recommend DDU.

It varies
DDU is mainly used to avoid possible issues of installing a new driver over an old one for example, and also used to help resolve any issues that may be caused by an improper driver install.

I use DDU in safe mode every time i update to a new driver, its just a good feeling knowing that using DDU you are less likely to run into an issue after installing a driver.

With that said
You dont ALWAYS have to use DDU when installing a driver, but every now and then is perfectly fine.

How do I uninstall my NVIDIA display drivers?

Driver files should always be uninstalled before updating to newer drivers or when removing an older NVIDIA card and replacing it with a newer card. To uninstall your current NVIDIA Display Drivers from your system, follow these steps:

1) Go into your Control Panel
2) Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon
3) Select the NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers from the list of programs.
4) Click Change/Remove or Add/Remove button.
5) Confirm with Windows that you wish to continue with the uninstall

Note: A prompt appears asking whether you want to delete all of the saved
nView profiles.
If you click Yes, all of the nView software and all of your saved
profiles will be deleted.
If you click No, the nView software is removed, but the profile files
are saved in the Windows\nView directory on your hard disk. If you take advantage of the nView profiles, you may wish to keep your custom nView profiles.

Once the driver files have uninstalled, Windows will request that you restart your computer to complete the uninstallation.

The trouble with windows is that it just uninstalls, it does not remove and it does not remove the registry entries it creates. if you don't want to spend an hour manually removing the driver yourself then a third party tool is a must.

using ddu or uninstalling gpu driver to switch from one brand to another is BS

iv had both installed together just fine (could access bothcatalyst and nvidia control panel at the same time)
saw no issue or performance issue

i took out my second 1070, installed my hd 6870 and both worked completly fine
why? i was curious
