ATH-AD1000x
Do I need an external amp for this beauty?
I'm considering hooking it up to my Z390 Aorus Master motherboard.
I've heard people say it's just fine, I've heard people say without an amp it's just a big waste of money.
Just looking for any clearance here..

It'll work without an amp but you wont get the full use of it.

While I don't own a pair of 1000x I can only drive my r70x at around half its volume without my x7.

You don't need an amp but you'll be better off getting a cheap combo from schitt or the g series from creative

Aren't the r70x like 300 ohm?
Compared to the 1000x even more difficult to drive?

Oh yeah you're right. I was thinking of a different model. The r70x are 470 ohm actually.

With the ad1000x you can easily your motherboard's amp to drive them but you'll get more noise from other electronics at higher volumes but nothing that will be really noticeable

So just to be totally clear, if I hook the ad1000x up to my motherboard, I'm not being a total idiot and wasting my money?
I'd love to get a good pair of headphones.. I just don't wanna by an amp to drive them.
( I'm no audiophile )

Stick to 80ohms or less if you are using a phone, tablet or using the motherboards onboard audio

Yeah you'll be fine. While audiophiles will tell you that an external dac/amp will best for sound clarity, and they aren't wrong, for a non-audiophile it isn't needed.

Looking at the specs the 1000x is 40ohms.

Then should be fine without a DAC/AMP to be honest. Just ensure you actually install your official audio driver and not use the generic hd audio driver crap that Windows has by default

Are there even specific drivers for the AD1000x?
Been browsing the internet for a while looking for them, don't see them listed on any official product page..

Well it's an analog audio device, so by drivers I mean for your sound card or motherboard onboard audio. Go get the latest driver for that and install it, reboot when done then configure the audio for best results per your liking, such as adjusting the equalizer and such within Windows Playback/Recording
