Internet Explorer 11 Removal Problem
I recently removed Internet Explorer 11 from my machine. As it is no longer supported by Microsoft it is a security problem waiting to happen. Unfortunately, after I did this, all my desktop icons for Steam games ceased to work. Changing file associations did not help; in fact, it created a new problem, essentially changing ALL icon associations to the game I selected, sometimes with the same icon.

Attempts to fix this problem by reinstalling the games using the default browser were also useless. No icon could be created, whether I chose my default browser or, most confusingly, the "Default Browser" icon of a little house that appears in the Windows 10 'Open With' dialog box. There seems to be a basic conflict within Windows 10 that the present iteration of the Steam application and installation process does not address..

Has anybody else seen this problem? Is there a workaround?

Sooner or later, when Microsoft itself removes IE 11 from Windows 10, this is going to break all the icons on Windows 10 machines. I have alerted Support to this issue but they have no answer. Therefore I take my problem here and make the userbase aware of the problem.

Where did you hear such nonsense as Microsoft no longer supporting IE11? That is absolutely untrue. That would be suicide by Microsoft as IE11 is very necessary in enterprise environments for legacy applications.

removing IE11 is a bad idea. Some components are integral with the windows operating system, which is why you should make certain it is always updated even if you never use it directly.

ie can be disabled, but not removed
parts of it are still used for windows desktop, explorer and many other things

IE still recieves security updates. It is still used a lot for legacy aplications.

How did you remove it? If you want to remove/disable it you have to do so by deleting it using Windows components.

Thanks for all the non-help. After careful review, I have decided I have nothing further to say on the subject to any of you. Have a good, good, good day.
