why though it will waste a good 30 dollars (not much for a cou but every dollar counts) and not improve much

for like 100 dollars more you could get your self an entry level Ryzen, mobo and ram.

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core2-Quad-Q9550-vs-Intel-Core2-Quad-Q6700

and this http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core2-Quad-Q9650-vs-Intel-Core2-Quad-Q6700

it's the q9550 or the q9650

and if you have a good gpu like a gtx 760 or a 960 you'd do fine

also what pc case\motherboard do you have?

based off that 120 won't do, if you'd like a good upgrade you'll need at lest 600,
you could also try and buy a 2nd hand pc, i'd take a look if you like?

I've got a feeling it not a tower or i'd say get a new gpu

my gpu is actually very good and my current cpu is bottlenecking it even with its fully potential released in some games i play or want to play it struggles to keep up and 600? you crazy? id say 200 or 300 for a good cpu plus motherboard and ram

a gtx 760 is far better then a gt 1030, and no i'm not crazy ,
you can get a pc 2nd hand for 600 it'd last you some time, however a good gaming pc you'd be looking at 1.5k or more

most were 300 and more on ebay au

also this is from aus ebay https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Vostro-460-Tower-PC-i5-2500-CPU-4GB-RAM-500G-HDD-WIN-7/273503838079?hash=item3fae195f7f:g:4HcAAOSwOahbv1pG:rk:3:pf:0
a good gaming pc doesnt need to be 1.5k to run gta 5 the most optimal for a current build is like 500 but if you are willing to go for older parts the price can get cut

i took that link down because i saw it was local pick-up, but if it wasn't that pc would do fine for you and it's a tower.

also you asked for a long lasting upgrade, as i don't think you'll just stay with gta 5,
that's why i put that 1.5k up there that's a long lasting upgrade, with what you can buy with that.

however for what you have a, q9650 and a gtx 760 would fit what's you're trying to do
however to get a better gpu you'd need a better power supply at lest a 500w plus.

i couldn't find any mini's of the gtx 760 not on ebay at lest

these are my still working old PCs
1. win 10_1809 i3-530 + nvidia 9800GT 1GB DDR3 (gpu dead so switched to nvidia g210 512MB DDR3
2. win 10_1809 pentium G630 (cpu replaced with i3-3240) + nvidia gtx 960 2GDDR5 (evga acx2.0)
3. win10_1803 pentium G2030 + nvidia gtx 650ti 1GDDR5
4. win10_1803 i3-3570k + nvidia gtx 960 2GDDR5 (asus strix)

your pc components is as good as the requirements for the games you play.
i play old games and i am fine with my PC.

Throw in E5450 and start saving for a Ryzen build.
