Will an i3 8100 fan work with an i7 8700K?
I currently have an intel i3 8100 and im looking to upgrade to an i7 8700K but the problem is the i7 8700K doesn't come with a fan so im wondering if the fan that came with my i3 8100 will work with the i7 8700K or not. Any answers will be appreciated.

I wouldn't use a i3 stock cooler on a i7. Under any even slightly demanding workload the CPU will overheat and throttle. If you can drop $400 on a CPU I am sure you can drop another $30 on a cooler.

Ideally for an 8700K you do want to be using an aftermarket cooler even if you are not going to overclock it (which you should by the way).

Go for a 9700k not an 8700k.

Yes, what motherboard do you have? With latest Bios update the older boards for Intel 8th Gen would then accept the newer 9th Gen CPUs

Unless you have a Z370 motherboard, getting a i7 8700K is stupid. You can't take full use of it's feature (overclocking) for maximum performance. If you have B360 motherboard, it's better to just get i5 8400.

Would help more if op would write down the full specs...

they are both the same hsf mount
the 115x hsf will fit any 115x socket

but the i3 cooler for 65w cpu will not be enough for an i7 95w cpu without throttling
