i7 7700k Vcore suggestions ?

Hello everyone, recently checked BIOS and i entered power settings to see what voltage is my CPU running at, CPU Vcore AUTO 1.300V is that too much should i lower it or ?

gigabyte ga-z270-hd3p

PS my 7700k is running at stock speeds 4.2GHz

Running my 7700k at stock 4.2Ghz with boost to 4.5Ghz I have my dvid (dynamic voltage) set at -0.140 and loadline Calibration set to high.

Thats on Gigabyte z270x gaming k5 motherboard. Auto was 1.29...cam't believe Gigabyte made default even higher. As default vcore is even higher on your board the setting for my vcore would be -0.150

Keep in mind silicon lottery. Yours may do better or worse than mine. Personally I'd start at -0.100 first then try in 0.010 increments. If crashes occur dial it back 0.005 and try again.


Edit: the voltage wont damage the cpu, it set high enough that every cpu will run, even if they are the worse luck of the silicon lottery draw. Provided ypu dont lower it too low to affect stability there really isnt a bad side to lowering it. The bonus to lowering it will be lower temps from the reduced voltage and that in turn will mean less noise from fans as they can run slower.

1.3 sounds healthy tbh, but if u're planning to keep running it stock - u might try to undervolt it a bit to reduce power consumption and heat. You won't damage anything anyway, so try 1.25, if system's stable - keep lowering for a small amounts unless system's not stable anymore, then go back to a bit higher and be happy with it.

What cooler though? 7700K is a very hot chip even at stock without undervolting.

Sure you can OC, you most likely can OC at even lower voltages. Tho first of all it wouldn't hurt to check your temperatures via stress-test like prime95 or yet another unoptimized Ubisoft crap.

All depends on the individual cpu and how good you cooling setup is. No one could tell you how high you can OC at that voltage. If cooling is weak you could hit a temperature wall before you find a stable OC at that voltage.

they have good guides, often cpu batch info for similar cpus from similar wafers

every cpu is different, each will have different speeds/temp/voltage wall
