9900K with all cores at 5Ghz

I have been reading a lot about the 9900K with all cores running at 5Ghz being very hot and requiring liquid cooling but now I'm wondering if the people saying so own a 9900K and have tried it themselves or are just repeating what someone else said. I upgraded my trusty old 4770K to a 9900K a few weeks ago and after installing Windows and making sure it was stable at stock settings I set it to run all cores at 5Ghz, crossed my fingers and rebooted. To my surprise it's rock solid and in most games it hovers around 55-60ºC which isn't even close to hot. In stress tests it hits 70-75ºC after a while and idling it sits at around 30-32ºC. I have a Noctua NH-D15 which is a very good air cooler so the temperatures I get can only be reproduced with the same cooler or an equally effective one in a well ventilated case.

Seems you won the silicon lottery.. in games at 5ghz the temps won't be All that high..stress testing for long periods is how reviewers get such high temps. It's when the components within the case become heat soaked. Could also be dependent on ambient temperature. In any case I'm happy you are having a good experience with overclocking a notoriously hot CPU. Congrats

Prime95, deactivate AVX and run 1334FTTs

Or just make a Blend test.

I've got mine running on a h150i 360mm aio and I agree, it's really not that hot if you have a good cooler, now, try running it on a 212 evo or a cheap 120mm aio and those temps will be alot higher.

With all cores running at 5Ghz it stabilized at 96ºC running the Prime95 Blend test with AVX on. That's hot but at least it didn't crash..

The magic of soldering i had to delid my 7700k and 8600k to go over 5 its also just down to the lottery this is why people conplained at intel for using that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ tim for so long

Well, delidding still has gains over the solder, it's just much better at stock than it was.

Yep that backs up what I said.... The solder is much better than I tels paste but delidding with LM has further gains, if you go the whole way and sand the die down there's even larger gains, de8aur has videos on these results.

It was less than 4c difference theres 0 reason to delid he even says so lol

That's just LM, if you go the whole way, as I said, so does Steve from GN like de8aur has done and sand it down it makes a bigger difference.

Now while 4c might not be a huge impact, if you are really pushing stuff it can make a difference, besides all of that, I was still correct, there are gains to be had from delidding, that they are minor is neither here nor there.

Most people wouldn't see any real gains from delidding an 8700k either if you want to really get into it as most never pushed their chips enough to justify it or then didn't go crazy with cooling to really take advantage of it.

People do not delid cpu’s for 4c difference you can get 4c difference by adjusting fan curves half the time unless you are maxing everything in your system out.

8700k delid 13 degrees cooler and 20c cooler for undervolting from 1.15 to 1.08 which is almost nothing

Dropping from 95c to 75c is why people delid dropping from 95c to 90c is not
