Is 98*c too hot?

I've had my rig for 4 years and always noticed it runs at 98c under load however I never thought about it because I assumed it was normal however some new software I have installed seems to be worried. Is 98 c normal?

Thats fair, I'm guessing windows itself would also warn me if there was a problem.

If it's 4 years old it might be time to blow the dust off the heatsink(s). My old GPU dropped 20°C just doing that.

Even though 98c is technically fine (for most modern CPUs), it's still a little to hot for me.
I would clean all the dust out, make a custom fan curve (or just run the fans at max for CPU), maybe even buy an extra fan for the case (if you have free space.) to get more intake, and then see if it's below 75c (I would never go above 80c, despite it being perfectly fine.)
And if it still didn't drop, then I'd repaste both GPU and CPU.

On my 970, I let it get dusty for a year, maybe year and a half.
Paste had dried up, and was clogged with dust.
It was at about 94c (Max, iirc.), I dropped it down to 58-60c (max) by repasting and cleaning the GPU. It needs a new dusting though, it's sitting at about 70ishc currently.

Depends how much you've overclocked it, if it's a light overclock, I wouldn't advise stock cooler, but it could handle it and not reach that temp.
I say, give it a good clean out, then report back.

Doesn't matter. I'm American, so I use the imperial system, so google told me 98C is equal to 208.4F. 8+4 is 12. 212F is the temperature water boils at. Then when I type 100C to F it says that it's 212F. Sorry that I'm American and that we all use the imperial system here. :|

Its only a slight overclock because anything more kept causing a blue screen, I'll clean the system tomorrow as well, its a bit late now

Yet again dont know why people around here tell others running over 90c is fine i highly doubt your cpu ran that long at temp intel themselves said to stop overclocking 7700ks when they were going over 90c because it degrades the cpu and causing long term damage. Dont belive me download xtu and run a benchmark after 85c it thermal throttles thats intels personal benchmark program. 100c is meant for spikes because intel coupdnt bother to solder the cpu’s so the temperatures were ridiculous.

Yes, it's a feature, well multiple features tbh.
I can make bacon and eggs for breakfast, boil water for my Udon or coffee(it's the only reason why intel named it Coffee Lake).
