PSU exploded, was cause of GTA v?
not cb title, I was playing GTA V in the mornin and BAM,
sounded like a firecracker in my room, I knew it was psu cause what else
IT was indeed connected to an extension chord, so I replaced the psu with a spare and here I am
but, I want to know if it's possible GTA v had something to do with it? I run the game on ultra and im on a GTX 770 ;3, but I have my ways of making the game run smooth at 1080p
any techies know if it could be a possibility? I just want to know so I don't repeat, ooh yea not connected to sketchy extension anymore

Yeah GTA V is known as PSU killer. /s (Sounds pretty stupid doesnt it?)

You have 3 options, chose one:
-replace the PSU with a reliable unit
-lower your settings and lock your FPS so that your PC dont overload the PSU
-pray that next time the PSU goes boom, it doesn't kill anything else

Pre-built, well cheap psu..

Worst case the psu made a multikill and mobo and friends are dead too. (Hope for u its only the psu)

Ask a friend if u can bare his psu for a test or buy a new one.
If the budget is tight - seasonic m12 or s12.

dang ya I do make my pc sufffer when I play GTA, now I put an EVGA psu, and I'll lower some settings, I already lock FPS to 50
GTA, or any other game/software can't do anything to make PSU explode.
It was a physical problem. Maybe it was low quality PSU.
Dust inside PSU can conduct electricity and short-circuit electronic inside.
Maybe your extension cord is bad and that was the cause.
Or maybe there was another reason. But I can assure you that GTA V had nothing to do with your PSU exploding.
Wait, so you spent $ on a desktop/laptop then plugged it up to an extension cord and didn't expect anything to go wrong with that plan? I always connect my most expensive electronics to surge protectors prior to plugging directly into wall outlets unless I have no other option but heavy duty, grounded extension cords--without exception because I work on other client's devices all the time and I wouldn't want to damage their equipment either. I guess if you like blowing money then just keep blowing stuff up?
this is what happens when u buy prebuilt
Cheap psus wear out over time due to use of low quality components. Nothing unusual there. Replace it with a good quality psu.
This is why you invest in overkill solutions, Seasonic is a good one, get gold or platinum, save power, heat, and even save money if you have air conditioning. 10-12 year warranty, fans don't even spin if you over spec if right and it stays passive most of the under idle loads, its not much of a cost per year. Stability and not frying your other components is worth it, you got off lucky the psu didn't take things with it, though there might be gremlins now, who knows.
