Anyone with experience of RMA'ing a card with EVGA ?
So a friend had his PC die on him mid gaming last night and I spent the morning taking a look at it for him and long story short, it's now working on the iGPU as the EVGA 980 Ti SC was causing a short and not letting the PC even switch on.

The card is in warranty, the problem is, he paid a local indi store to buy the parts and build it, as such he has no receipt for the card only an invoice/receipt from the store which doesn't specifically detail the parts, only that is has a 980Ti in it.

As such what are his chances of being able to RMA the card ?

I'm guessing slim to none...

980ti is a higher tdp card
what psu did you have?
brand/model
That receipt you speak of is all that he needs. Go to evga.com and make an account and register the gpu serial# and upload a copy of the receipt. If you do not have a scanner, take a clear picture of it with a phone camera. Once this is done, select the Returns/Warranty option, explain the issues with the gpu card and submit the form and wait for further details from evga tech support

No offence, but the card is dead.

A/ Like I said it's a friends PC not mine.
B/ The machine has run perfectly fine for 2 and a half years.
C/ The PSU works fine, the machine is perfectly fine, the GPU however is not.
D/ Not that it has any relevance to the question the PSU is an EVGA 850w G2

There is no receipt, so as I suspected, RMA'ing isn't an option then, didn't know if there might be a way without it... I thought (hoped) with the serial number EVGA might be able to trace where the store that bought the parts and built the machine got it from who than might have been able to confirm where it was sold to, etc, etc, etc..

A bit of an ask I know but I'm just fishing to try and save my friend a substantial outlay on new GPU.

Have him contact EVGA support
But its doubtful they can do anything

For future reference
ALWAYS REGISTER EVGA products on their website, not only does it help with this type of stuff they also allow you to purchase an extended warranty.

btw, you only need the serial thats listed on the GPUs backplate to be able to register it, in addition to where it was purchased and when.
