Samsung 860 EVO 1TB or PRO 1TB
Hi, so I'm planning to reinstall my windows 7 into windows 10. And since my hdd c drive(which partition size is 499gb) and I'm getting windows 10, its time to upgrade my storage by buying a new ssd drive. I'm planning to buy the 1tb drive since 500 gb is not enough for all of my program. The ssd that I will going to buy is samsung 860 and there is two types I'm going to choose. The EVO and PRO. I've done a research that the EVO use TLC and PRO uses MLC. All I found out is that the MLC has longer lifespan than TLC. I primarily use it for steam games, other programs including adobe and probably 3d modelling software like 3ds max. The cost of these ssd-s are much different. The EVO cost more about 3.2 million IDR and the PRO ones costs about 5.5 million IDR.
I'm thinking of choosing the EVO ones because it was so cheap. But what do you guys think? How much life span is it between these ssd-s? Should I consider buying the PRO because of it long life span? What are your thoughts?

Unless you are constantly moving very large files (think 4k video editing) the evo is all you need, the pro really is for professional use in this case.

if the pro is not much more expensive then get it. otherwise as mentioned above the evo is fine for regular use.

if you only want faster OS and faster loading in games don't even bother with m.2

Yeah M.2 NVMe drives are purely Raw IOPS

Correct me if i'm wrong but booth 860 EVO and 860 PRO are SATA, yeah you can buy one with m.2 form factor but that doesn't change those to NVMe.

860 EVO and 860 PRO are both SATA
970 EVO and 970 PRO are both NVMe

for me anything that extends the life of the part is beneficial.
So I chose the Pro SSD.

Samsung ssds last pretty much forever now.

860 evo (1TB) is rated for 600TBW, which should last at least a decade for most ppl.

I still have an old 840 evo which is rated for 75TBW and i only used up about half of that in the 2 years that i used it as my os drive, before switching it to a steam drive...

So yeah, dont worry about lifespan and get the evo.

Basically this. I just bought the 860 Evo a last week because 600tbw will keep you going until the drive is obsolete.
