Firecuda drives are fine. Fanboys will start pushing for WD Black in 3.. 2.. 1..
It doesn't really matter what SATA data cable your buy, as long as it's a III cable.
check if it has an extra one that you can use before ordering a splitter
The other drive I was looking at was a Seagate IronWolf drive that is 8TB with a 256MB cache. Guy I know on a fb group for games told me to go with the Firecuda he loves them as they are as close to getting to a SSD as you can get without actually having an SSD speed wise. I also like the $97 price tag for the 2TB Firecuda better than the $250 for the 8TB Ironwolf.
Thats good to know on the cable. I havent opened the case up before but I know this is a oem Asus power supply and I know adding on a second drive will require me buying another cable. I saw this daisy chain style SATA power supply cable and thought well maybe that would be best for me as its $5 for that vs spending $5 for a splitter and then another $5 for a power cable. But if the power supply has more SATA power connectors then I would gladly go with just a power supply cable vs removing the current cable and installing a daisy chain cable.
The only thing that has me wary right now is the motherboard, I dont know what it is other than its an Asus brand board. Everyones been telling me it should have another SATA port for at least one more hard drive. So I hope what ive been hearing is correct as I am looking at $105 for the hard drive, power supply cable splitter, and the sata cable itself.
I honestly dont know. I havent opened this case yet. Was still under warranty and I think now nearly 2 years later the warranty is about up. All I know is the power supply is what ever Asus put in this G11CD which is not the current G11CD, mine doesnt have a SSD, mine is the previous iteration of the G11CD. The splitter I am looking at how ever is this one here.

From the way I understand it, its a power cable and splitter all in one. Just plug the male end into the power supply and you now have 2 or 4 female ends to plug directly into your hard drives. This effectively eliminates the need for two cables and only need one. But now if my power supply has a SATA power connection to plug into that is not being used then I much rather for a clean upgrade to just simply purchase just a SATA power cable and plug it in vs having this daisy chain setup.
I know my case has no windows in it other than the red some what transparent sliver. But I am trying to do things nice since now that warranty is up I am going to be opening the case on a more regular basis for cleaning and maybe upgrading.
Opening the case does not void the warranty. With companies like Asus you have the right to self repair. Your PSU most likely does have extra power cables, open the case and check. If it really does not have any extra SATA power connectors check if it has a free Molex connector. It's best to not daisy chain devices this way unless you really have to.
So for me I only have 1 hard drive expansion I can do unless there is another Sata open behind the two above the two I am looking at. I see one but hard to see if the one behind is open or not. If is then I might upgrade by adding a SSD later on.
