Are you actually asking about underclocking your gpu? like a lower clock and voltage? thats what is sounds like to me but then you say..
so now you want to know how to stop the power saving features so have higher clock power limits etc
You also have games like Far Cry 5 that will only use 4 cores so you will not see a 100% CPU usage before GPU usage will drop due to a limitation.
Actually not, it will let the gpu run 100%. 1080Ti is what will get held back slightly.
1080 and 1070Ti will not get held back in majority of games. The ones where they will, are the ones more focused on 4 or less cores and high clockspeed.
Far Cry 5 can use 6 cores but for some reason it (and Primal) do not run too great on Ryzens.
If your game is running stable 60fps, it means that there is either:
a: VSync on
b: the game itself has a framelimit
And if your gpu is powerful enough, it won't need to run at 100% usage. And thus you can increase the graphical settings.
That you typed down there is true. i'll just try a few things on my own.
To elaborate a bit:
My statement of gpu being powerful enough and not needing to run at 100% usage, is only true for when there is a Framerate limit or VSync on.
Otherwise, you should always run at highest possible framerate and gpu usage at 100%.
Not be locked at 60fps. If you are locked to 60, and it won't go above or under that, some kind of limit/sync is on.
Do note that "Power %" is not same as "GPU utilization %"
Power % is how much of the maximum available Wattage/TDP is used.
GPU Utilization is how much of gpu's performance itself are being utilized.
If Far Cry 4 used 6 cores you would not have people with 4c/8t i7's getting CPU limited at 60% usage.
I do too. Although I don't own AC:O myself.
Also, Far Cry doesn't really seem to utilize the multi-threading. Just full cores. So 60% sounds about right since you have other stuff running too in the background, which would be 10% of the usage on the 4c i7.
I remember Primal actually ran better on Ryzen when you disabled SMT.
