VR makes my gpu run like crap
if i play a vr game for about 10 minutes and then move on to a normal game my gpu gets fps drops from 160 frames to 30. this happens on any game i try untill i reinstall drivers.( my gpu is a gt 1030 ik its not meant for vr but it shouldnt be loosing fps like this after playing)

Which of course isn't normal.

Except it is if something in the card has burnt out.

OP has put a massive strain on both his GPU and PSU ergo it's possible. Re-installing drivers may make it "appear" to function normally but once the card gets stressed again, it's just going to keep happening.

Had a similar thing happen to me with a radeon card years ago where certain games just caused it to break till I re-installed drivers. Ended up in a rinse and repeat cycle till I acctually took it out of my PC and saw a blown capacitor on it.

honestly though i just think its weird that i play vr games with 90+ fps but then when i return to normal games it plays like a potato.

It can be thermal throttling. Check the cooling for it.

gt card is not for gaming or vr

can it do it, yes, but at acceptable framerate, not even close

i think that is because VR is a new technology. you have a software issue and weird errors with new technologies are normal. thats it imo.
kind regards

It's the 1030, don't expect much of anything from it.

The GT 1030 is way too weak for VR gaming.

You guys fail to understand that OP runs the VR fine (as fine as GT 1030 can...), but after they quit after playing awhile, normal games run bad while they ran well before playing with VR.

'OP runs the VR fine'

Ok...

Ok...

maybe you should read the sentence until the end....I said "as fine as GT 1030 can..." after that.

OP is experiencing a loss of performance, AFTER playing VR. Not WHEN playing VR.

Look a 1030 is slower than a 750Ti, I hardly doubt that it runs VR 'fine' as you so blatantly said. The miniumum for VR is a 970 or a 1060, anything below that will NOT run VR 'fine'.

I know, which is EXACTLY WHY I said "as fine as it can" after it.
There are some very light VR games which can run with 1030 at the required resolution and framerate.

As long as gpu has at least 2gb VRAM, HDMI 1.3 and supported resolution of more than 2160x1200 it can run VR headset. And as long as the game is VERY light, it will run at high enough framerate at that resolution.
OP clearly is mainly playing one such game.

The main issue here is the lower performance AFTER quitting the VR game.
Which of course isn't normal.

after quitting vr mode, make sure the headset is off and the gpu is not trying to clone its outputs and still run in vr mode

One thing that OP said struck me odd. He said the only way for him to get his other games running fine after playing VR was a driver re install. So, restarting the PC doesn't fix the issue?
SenpaiOreo Jul 27, 2018 @ 3:06pm
im playing with a ryzen 5 1600 4 gb of ram and a gt 1030 its mainly just a test that came out really well. i can play vr without any sickness and 90+ fps its just that the drivers get uninstalled afterwards its weird but i understand that its not meant to be in the first place.

take beat saber for example i can play that on a gt 1030 like csgo on a titian x. vr runs fine on the gpu the problem is that its just forcing me to reinstall drivers after vr has been played. (for those that keep saying the gpu cant run vr)

no restarts dont fix it. i have to reinstall drivers (only takes 10 minutes) and then back to normal gaming.
