Also, having delayed sound playback doesn't sound like it has anything to do with network stuff. Sounds more like your computer is slow loading or playing the sound bits.
But it doesnt happen when i play alone, offline mode with bots. In that mode it literally never happens.
In online, with others its there maybe 20% of time. It throws me off when shooting with any gun that requires accuracy, because idk if my shot will lag or not.
It might be that servers simply sucks, its old game after all, but i have been asking from different players and none of them seem to have same issues im having, even one who has even weaker laptop than i do.
There might be other issues regarding network but im not noticing it. My only issue is random firing sound delay, its not off a lot, but i definitely do feel it. Someone else watching me playing might not notice it.
Im still fairly sure its network related, why else it only happens online?
I have tried to solve this issue since like half a year ago. Googled for hours, and i cant find what im searching for.
Easiest way would be play on someone elses computer one online game to see if they really get the same issue as i do. I have wondered if this happens to other people too, but they just dont notice it.
You should do general tweaks like disabling unnecessary processes and services at startup as high dpc can be any driver and even any programs like monitoring utilities that can cause spikes.
You may want to do a network quality test and testmy.net over time to see how your connection handles the different loads and over time which can be drastically different then just a speed test.
Did you try latencymon and did it give you a clue as to which driver it is or are you certain it is the LAN? If so you might want to try an older driver just to see.
If going to change IPv4 / IPv6 settings, do it from the Router. Otherwise it wouldn't be changed for devices like phones, tablets, tvs
Its been a while, but i think it was the NDIS or something in the latencymon. It also told me that my cpu is not too good, which i knew already.
I got windows 8.1 64 bit, btw.
I wonder if disabling any Power saving crap, like green ethernet and such would help? I did quick check yesterday, but i cant remember if there was such settings.
Reinstall the driver if you mean to reset the advanced section of the adapter options.
That sounds incredibly half assed by Windows. There really is no other way???
I'm using Toshiba laptop, and Toshiba only has bunch of outdated drivers, because they no longer make laptops i think. Its reall hassle to navigate their website to find the drivers and such.
For example my audio drivers are something called Conexant hd audio, and afaik, there is no official site even download them. I have zero idea where to download correct new drivers for both sound card and my network card...
I guess its better i dont touch my network advanced settings...
installing a different nic use its default settings
Last question, is it safe to disable any eco/green network settings? I read about some "green network" setting that uses less power, when you use short ethernet cable. If i find such settings, can they cause some cpu load increase or other heating issues, if i disable them?
I have noticed in l4d 2 my ping does fluctuate little bit, going from 25 to 30, so maybe some green feature is enabled by default. I also found it weird how my ping didnt increase when using wired connection, got literally same ping on wireless.
I just want to be safe before i do any changes.
the ping inconsistency may be due to other network traffic or isp/server issues
