Can you purchase the valve index with steam wallet money?

I have seen online that people are saying no but the posts are from a while back. The a good amount of my money is in the wallet so that is the only way im going to be able to afford it.

People have been having issues with trying to use their wallet and had to ask support about it. Not all were allowed to use their wallet even after discussing it with support because their accounts had some type of flag on them. But in general, you should be able to.

iv used steam wallet to buy steam link hardware, should be possible to use wallet funds+card/paypal ect.. to buy the index

The Link was not $1k. There is some type of flag that is triggered that support has to look into. There were many complaints when the Index was released up until Nov about users being told they can't use their wallet.

if you have credit, you should be able to use the credit toward hardware or games

Apparently Valve decided that there would be restrictions and add flags to accounts (some falsely) on the use of wallet funds to purchase the Index.

This is why if any issues arise, you have to contact support.

I took a screenshot which I can't share on this discussion for some reason saying my Steam wallet balance is too low. So it is possible one day that I could get a Steam V\alve Index, while saving up each month. It will only take about 26 Months, depending how much I put into my Steam Wallet a month. LOL

Makes more sense to restrict expensive things
Steam Link was cheap and not a highly sought after item

Something expensive using the steam wallet could easily cause problems, fraud related etc so its probably best if they didnt allow it.

Especially for people that sell expensive CSGO items for example and then using that to buy an Index then selling it on ebay, etc etc so on.

in situations like that it makes more sense imo for them not to allow it.

That's gonna suck if you run into this error, and have all that money stuck on Steam without being able to buy an index... Because wallet too low in no way excludes other issues.

I hope I am understanding this correctly but I only have £23.72 in my wallet funds, I was just seeing if it is possible that I can buy it with the Steam wallet funds, even though I was joking. LOL

It's not an issue, nobody has been declined to buy one after contacting support

i think steam won't allow more than $500 (USD) in the wallet at once and stop any further refill when the wallet balance reaches $500. But you can still have more than that if you sell your CSGO or inventory items.
