what is a good cooler for a ryzen 7 2700x?
its been a while since ive upgraded, i still have a amd fx 8350 and its starting to show its age. right now i have a Cooler Master Hyper D92 in my Case Sentey GS-6011 ATX Mid Tower Case. so i decided to finally start thinking about upgrading my cpu and i landed on the 2700x as a good replacement, but im not sure what a good cooler for it would be. my main issue is that i don't know what cooler could cool the cpu enough. i want to keep it under $100, and i prefer a fan (and i doubt any solid am4 water coolers can be found under 100).

do you guys have any suggestions?

Don't bother with AIO coolers, I have tried 240, 280 and 360 ones, they are overated and the pumps are noisy.

Get a noctua NH-D15, the best air cooler, and pretty silent.
Same i am done with AIO coolers not to mention they can qutie a damage to your system when it leaks, if anything you have to rebuy everything from the start.

AIO coolers are only that just for show. Nothing else. Oh sure they can cool but not for very long comapred to air coolers like noctua.

The only down size of noctua is its size, but noctua does a lot better job cooling your system and its cheaper then the AIO coolers.

depends if you like flashy RGB lights or not though I guess. I'm not 12 any more so I am done with flashy lights in my PC, some peoples look like a fairground ride. If that's what you like, each to their own.

I was going to recommend this:

https://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-Freezer-eSports-DUO-Configuration/dp/B07MJGNJB3
However your case doesn't support this cooler by tiny millimeters.
Max height is 150mm
So I would go for Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi Instead.
https://www.amazon.com/CRYORIG-Quad-Programmable-Cooler-heatpipes/dp/B071WSC4PX

waste of moeny tbh. The H7 was ncie durign the times it cost as much as the Hyper 212 2 years ago. now with the price doubled the marginal 1-2C doesnt cut it anymore. espacially if you get a LC-CC-120 for way less and same performance as both.

https://www.amazon.com/LC-POWER-LC-CC-120-Cooler-120mm-Heatpipes/dp/B07QYMMTFV/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=LC-CC-120&qid=1575773440&sr=8-1
Hmm I have never seen this before. Sure it can be a nice alternative as well. But 50$ on a cooler is not a waste anyways considering his budget is max 100 + looks wise it's a lot better.
Quick edit that cooler does not fit to his case anyways. Refer to here:

I don't think they are overrated. I personally haven't had any problems with noise on my AIO cooler, I have the H150i pro RGB 360MM and even with the pump speed maxed and fans maxed it's still pretty quiet.

I guess it just depends on the cooler you get, no clue what coolers you've had but mine is very quiet and I get great temps at around 25C idle. So I guess it's just a matter of what cooler you end up getting because I haven't had any issues. And to be honest, AIO coolers just look way better then fan coolers.

exactly it with looks. I don't care about looks any more. Irrc mine was a h100i, but my case fans were so quiet, all i could hear was the pump, which annoyed me.

Not much better?
3600 and 3700X stays below 70*C with it.

so does it with the Wraith Prism the Spire isnt much worse for that it is free. the difference is elss then 5C

https://external-preview.redd.it/hydUOWsWNk1WpHNZkoHwq3pS9L6cX61jKw3fs_mttAs.png?auto=webp&s=e9d3a5e5d77c7209b34b4b361f80eeb5a1e15624

they improved the Wraith Spire and Wraith Prism after the first gen Ryzen.
The one that ships with 3600 as and 3600x is total junk. It'll have temps around 85*C with that. The 3700X cooler is better however.

3600 comes with the stealth, 3600X comes with the spire.

Oh ok, yes just the 3600 one was terrible, my bad. Was kind of dumb move for them to do that given the tdp of those.

The TDP doesn't even mean anything, because the 3600X only uses a few extra watts. The reason why they included the stealth with the 3600 was just to cut costs/maximise profit, in my opinion.

But the stock cooler for 3600 doesn't even keep it cooled, it's too weak and noisy. Buy a better cooler. Stock = junk

It should've stayed on the Ryzen 3 chips. AMD made a wrong move there.

I guess it just depends on what AIO you had, my pump at full speed is still super quiet. But I have 15 fans in my case so that can also be another reason why i cant hear my AIO at full speed.

I have Corsair's H115i Platinum, which has a coolit pump rather than the usual asetek pump, and it's quiet.

I like as silent as possible now. There was a time i did not care and my pc sounded like a hoover, but now i do. Carefully worked out fan setup is the key. 10+ fans is ludicrous and probably only because they are RGB and you like the fairground ride look like Escorve does, which i don't. I have 4 fans in my case and my temps are fine, neither cpu or gpu over 65c. Also positive case pressure is the best way, or you just end up with your case being a dusty mess.
