what is a good cooler for a ryzen 7 2700x?
its been a while since ive upgraded, i still have a amd fx 8350 and its starting to show its age. right now i have a Cooler Master Hyper D92 in my Case Sentey GS-6011 ATX Mid Tower Case. so i decided to finally start thinking about upgrading my cpu and i landed on the 2700x as a good replacement, but im not sure what a good cooler for it would be. my main issue is that i don't know what cooler could cool the cpu enough. i want to keep it under $100, and i prefer a fan (and i doubt any solid am4 water coolers can be found under 100).

do you guys have any suggestions?

Well people might not like the temps with the stock cooler, but it should not get to any point of throttling. I've tried a few Zen2 configs and generally didn't have any issues or super high temps. If don't like the stock cooler, buy a better one. It doesn't need to be expensive either.

The 3900X throttles under extreme loads at stock even with a 280mm AIO, and it's not a mounting issue, because I've tried things differently with little to no change whatsoever.
The cause is simply because PBO cranks up the voltage to its maximum across all cores and drives it into an unsafe level, so it throttles and ends up running 1.5v @ 4.2 GHz during an extreme load. Stress tests are a good example and test method, because it instantly throttles the 3900X at stock/PBO.

With a per CCX OC, the voltage remains where you set it to and the temperatures remain under check, and as a result there's no throttling. The same thing has happened to people with the 3700X and the Wraith Prism under similarly heavy workloads.

Learn how voltage offsets work and manually set those to something safe.

yeah, thats my worry. i just want a cooler that keeps the cpu in normal temp limits, like i dont want this thing to be melting under heavy load, but if you guys say the stock cooler will work, then ill give it a try.

Already did that, I have a Per CCX OC running, and it's better than anything PBO can do in its current state.

A beefy air cooler would be better than a lot of watercoolers and easier to maintain too. Like the Dark Rock/Pro 4.
3600/3600X/3700X
A cheap Hyper212 EVO would do fine.
I just don't like the CM fan it ships with.

Or look at BeQuiet Rock Slim

tbh, the CM Hyper 212 Evo is not much better then the stock cooler and one of the stock coolers is on par. Also the LC-CC-95 Cooler cost half and has the same eprformance then Hyper 212 Evo
Not much better?
3600 and 3700X stays below 70*C with it.

they improved the Wraith Spire and Wraith Prism after the first gen Ryzen.

I just put a 2700x together yesterday to replace my FX8350.

The 2700x has a stock wraith Prism aka wraith Max also comparable to the cm212 and gammaxx 400, the 2700x with the prism for me keeps the cpu at 4100-4175mhz and 57-62c under load. It is a good upgrade for my GTX1070.

Prism ^ vs gammaxx 400

Ps, ^ spire vs 212 led the spire takes a dive at 4:40.

Don't bother with AIO coolers, I have tried 240, 280 and 360 ones, they are overated and the pumps are noisy.

Get a noctua NH-D15, the best air cooler, and pretty silent.

I was going to recommend this:

https://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-Freezer-eSports-DUO-Configuration/dp/B07MJGNJB3
However your case doesn't support this cooler by tiny millimeters.
Max height is 150mm
So I would go for Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi Instead.

waste of moeny tbh. The H7 was ncie durign the times it cost as much as the Hyper 212 2 years ago. now with the price doubled the marginal 1-2C doesnt cut it anymore. espacially if you get a LC-CC-120 for way less and same performance as both.

The 2700x come with its own coooler but i highly suggest noctua.
