Warning! Some AMD X470 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Matisse CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions.
Hi, I want to upgrade my CPU to AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8 GHz 12-Core Processor. On pcpartpicker.com, I'm getting a message that says "Some AMD X470 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Matisse CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions." I don't know what this means so, I want to see If anyone can help me out so I wont make huge mistake on buying this CPU. And If anyone can recommend me a better one then the one I have right now then I would really appreciate it.

My current specs Just in Case
CPU: Ryzen 7 2700X
GPU: GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB FTW
Motherboard: X470 GAMING M7 AC ATX AM4
RAM: HyperX Predator RGB DDR4-3200

update your BIOS using your current ryzen 2700X cpu.
after the update, you can now replace your old cpu with the newer cpu.

some boards can update bios without a cpu

but its best to get a 5xx board for a 3xxx cpu to avoid problems like that
Or just buy a board already updated.
Like any MSI board that ends in MAX is updated and designed solely for 3xxx series

Just update bios with 2700x.

Ps, I believe ryzen 4xxx is around the corner late spring/ summer which should drive 3900x pricing down at that time.

Okay, and? This has been known for a long time.
Yep, it's been known since launch of the 3xxx series, B450, X470 and their B350 and X370 siblings needed to have their BIOS updated to support AMD 3xxx series CPU's. The only B450 motherboards (that I know of) with out-of-the-box support for the 3xxx CPU's are MSI's 'MAX' series.

A few months late to the party. And this is a pretty common scenario. Hard to have BIOS support on a board for a CPU that didn't exist when it was released.

It's been the case with the previous ryzen releases too.

Pretty much every board goes through this if a new cpu comes out that the bios didn't already have support for but they can allow it to work on the chipset.
