480gb m.2 nvme ssd or 960gb?
Last part in building a rig. Wnated to see if anything significant as far as gaming would have to do from the drives. I'll be be playing in 4k mostly.

Also noteworthy is that an OS on a fast SSD combined with a game from a slower HDD can still perform way better than from a HDD alone. Some of that game data can end up on the SSD through caching and will improve overall performance during a gaming session.
Concerning Tekken 7 i also had that case where a simple update from the developer improved loading times by like x10. Even though i still had it on a slow 5400 rpm HDD.
Now having it moved to an SSD i don't even notice any difference anymore. It really depends on how the game is coded and how much data gets moved. Fighting games are certainly lightweights there.

You will notice a lot faster loading times for ssd drives over conventional hdd's.

M.2 drives will not be a huge improvement for gaming over a normal sata drive so if you already have a larger sata drive you could go with the smaller m.2 for your os boot drive and a couple games while your bigger sata drive is for your other games.

Otherwise if you are only getting one ssd in the form of the m.2 drive you will want to get the bigger one as you will run out of space if you play a lot of games or play some of the larger file size games as some can exceed 100+ gigs each.

500gb m2 + 1tb nvme

Do it!

Please be sure to get at least one drive with 5TB HDD, if you game, there are lots of games out there, that literally do not benefit much from SSD, and you really do not want to constantly download games, if you do not have Gigabit fiber. you can mostly only fit 1 favorite game on your SSD and nvme drives. If you do not have enough cash for high volume one.

And if you are a gamer, you want to play other games some days and not have to redownload again, and back again if you want to play that favorite. so pls save yourself and do that.

Not true. You'll notice big differences with an SSD over an HDD. The average user doesn't even need 5TB, more like 2-3TB.

Who makes a good 5TB and who the hell buys odd ball drives?

Look at WD Red or Gold; 4, 6, 8, 10 tb sizes

You also don't need all games installed, get real.

what i mean, all it really does affect is loading times, and I really have not seen much games that I really miss the few seconds time, in favor of having more games installed at same time.
ALl games? really, i have like 5 games installed and it already takes 2 TB

Wrong in a way.

Mode open world games must load data like texture draws all the time. What we call constant ingame prefetching. Ssd helps greatly in such games... gtav, rust, ark, rdr2, Witcher 3, pubg, dayz, arma 2 and 3... many more

Lets see, he will be playing 4k games, have windows on it with all the apps and other programs, mine is like using 200GB. And if you try to fit any big open world games with 4k texture packs on it, it would get full and slow down drive

While that might be true, not all games need to be on a ssd.

I tend to have 3 or 4 drives in my machines. Lesser demanding games go on the hdd.

Then maybe do it like this...

500gb ssd for os and apps
2tb nvme for some games.
4tb or larger 7200rpm hdd for lesser demanding games and loose personal filea.

True, for me, games that I don't play that often get relegated to my 6TB WD Black (2 partitions). For games that I do play often, I spread them out among my 4 SATA SSD's - 1x 4TB, 1x 2TB, 2x 1TB - once you go SSD's and their spiffy load times, there's no turning back!

On topic of SSD vs HDD for games...
Well, SSD is definitely better, however it is still practically impossible to get large enough SSD to not care about space. Which is possible with HDD.
So dumping everything to HDD and then if loading times are too bad or stuttering happens moving it to SSD seems like sensible compromise. In many cases benefits from moving to SSD are so small that it is not even worth the time.
How large SSD should be? Short answer - the bigger the better. Not only you can store more, but also performance tends to degrade once SSD is nearly full. 480GB will be practically enough for OS and a couple of games, if you want more - 960GB or even 2TB will be nice. They are not impractically expensive anymore.

So also, my main games are tekken, will be mk11, mostly fighting games, and an occasional shooter. How about now?

And i will already have a 2TB HDD. Might even buy a 4TB external HDD as well.

*Also, i stream

Go for 1 TB SSD as a main drive. It will be worth it in your system. So do my system once my Samsung EVO 1 TB gets here. I have a lot of movies I got from Blu-ray digital copy, and a lot of music is hi-res.

Friendly warning, don't go for PRO SSD. It is almost the same speed and more expensive.

Storing files like movies and music will be better for a normal hdd with larger capacity for a lot less money as they do not need the speed a ssd provides that can be used for other items like gaming.

With DSD, DRM, and one time download? No way.

And Im not the OP.
