AV receiver hdmi passthrough question
So, I've got an older 2012 Yamaha reciever that has hdmi 1.4 passthrough, limiting me to 1080p/60hz or 4k/30hz, when coming from the graphics card to the reiever, then to the tv.

I'm considering purchasing a modern Yamaha reciever that does have hdmi 2.0/hdcp 2.2 passthrough.

Would the modern amplifier support 1080p/120hz when passed through the reciever from the graphics card and to the tv? All hdmi ports are 2.0, so they are all compatible. The specifications page also indicates that full HDR, 4k/60hz, and 3d are all supported, but I can't find an actual answer before I go and blow 400 bucks.

I can go directly to the tv and achieve 120 hz (yes its a native 120hz tv panel), but the audio passthrough has insane amounts of latency, that according to LG support, is an outstanding issue that cannot be circumvented, even with their 'lipsync' technology.

you will need to look up the specs of the receiver

some do osd overlay and cannot add it to 4k or higher than 60hz signals

Maybe you can work it around, plug your HDMI into the TV and use the ARC to send the audio back to the receiver.

That is how I currently have the system set up, but due to the way this LG tv decodes sound, even a direct bypass through arc hdmi/optical has sound latency - very irritating. Connecting to the reciever eliminates this latency, but has the limiting passthrough.

I contacted Yamaha support, and even their newest hdmi 2.1 model receivers still don't support 120hz @ any resolution.

This is still a niche' market I'm afraid, but that might change this year once receiver manufacturers catch up (hopefully).

lg tvs are stupid about the sound outputs

use a hdmi to the reciever just for sound
