What's a step up from Geforce MX150?
I guess that's my graphics card. It's a laptop too.

I can run GTA 5 excellent with pretty great graphics. When I run RDR2 however, even the lowest settings my PC can optimize still lag and look like crap. I'm guessing I should just upgrade my graphics card, just not sure which one to get.

Does your laptop support component upgrades? Most likely not.

:qr:
a new laptop with a gt card or radeon vega 11

for gaming aim for a gtx card minimum

I should have thought about that. It problem doesn't. I just assumed you could take it apart and install a new graphics card.

Trying my best to watch my budget, but a whole new PC might have to happen.
most laptops with the igp or very low end dedicated gpu cannot upgrade the gpu

The problem is - there is no card. All modern laptops with a very few exceptions have the GPU soldered not on the graphics card, but on the laptop's motherboard, hence upgrading is at the very least tricky. It sure is possible, but I doubt it's worth the effort, especially considering most laptops have their cooling system somewhere between "acceptable" and "hot as hell", hence soldering in a better GPU will result in it not working properly.
with such a weak laptop, you can use it for inhome streaming/remote play
if you have a host pc capable of playing and streaming the games
>try to launch RDR2
>gpu is mx150
Arthur: you alright, boah?
Your low end pc: I got lumbago
Your MX150 is basically a slightly overpowering integrated graphic card.
the mx130 is about 2.5x the performance of the intel hd 630

but still miles behind any good dedicated gpu

its like saying running is faster than walking, but you will still get run over on a freeway

Even when the occasional "upgradeable" gaming laptop comes down the pike.

  1. The laptop it'self is prohibitively expensive.
  2. And the GPU upgrades easily cost twice as much as the equivalent desktop graphics card.

And this largely has to do with those sorts of laptops being sold in low volumes, and only some of those customers actually buy upgrades. And most products sold at a low volume need to be sold at a very high profit margin to be worthwhile, and since there's usually only one place to buy the upgrade from and not a lot of choice so no chance of price drops or sales or anything.

And that's why those things always fizzle out and tend not to catch on. But every so often some OEM has to give it a whirl.

generally people who has very little hardware knowledge always defend their crappy hardware.
Once i found a guy in off topic, he was claiming his intel HD 630 is a very powerful card. Reason because he can play most games on steam 35 fps 720p with no lag at all.

he was very happy about his card / igpu.
I tried to argue with him, but after several try i failed.

No wonder you did, calling Intel HD 630 a card.

The correction: he gets 35fps in menus
his logic was, he has 120 games in his library (i saw most of them are 5-10 years old). And intel hd 630 can play almost all of them at playable fps just fine. Except few newer games only. So, intel hd 630 is a very capable card indeed.

you will be surprised, intel HD 630 can actually run most of the 5-10 years old games at around 30-40 fps medium settings even at 1080p.
