Programs similar to Nvidia Geforce Experience?
I really want to make the switch to Linux, but one thing is holding me back: Geforce Experience.

I've had a 1660 Super as my first Nvdia GPU for a month or so now, and I love the feature that lets you record the last X minutes of gameplay. I don't have to start recording every time I play, and I don't have to deal with the classic "Man, I should have recorded that!" problem.

Does anyone know of a program that will do the same thing on Linux? I would really like to switch to Linux, but I don't want to go back to starting OBS every time I want to get footage for a montage or something. It's nice to know I can clip anything at any time.

Setup a shortcut which runs the command obs --startrecording. I only check the documentation for 1 second since I don't have much time so it might require a few more parameters for it to work. And I am not that familiar with OBS since I have never used it.

Test the command by running it on the terminal.

Some DE's like GNOME have a build-in recorder, but they are very basic and resource heavy. GNOME's screen recorder can be triggered with SHIFT+CTRL+ALT+R, the same shortcut also quits it.

OBS or SLOBS with nvidia hardware encoding enabled. GFE is fairly useless anyways beside using it for ShadowPlay

Queue people saying GFE is spyware/bloatware and to ignore it.

but would that give the same functionality that Instant Replay would, how it always keeps the last 5 minutes recorded and you can save it with a hotkey?

I don't suggest that, cause who cares really. But it is useless for the most part. As that is not how to configure games.

I never said you did. I said people that would say it are coming, which I've no doubt they will.
But it does have legitimate uses, shadowplay, Reshade being intergrated into (since some anti-cheats would detect reshade as a cheat, now it's intergrated it's not an issue), and driver update alerts.

One can easily turn off NVidia's telemetry if they feel like their gaming history might cause a war or something.
