On Nvidia you can enable DLSS. It should have improved quite a bit since it launched, no longer does the image look like your screen has vasaline smeared all over it.
On AMD you can enable FidelityFX/Radeon Image Sharpening, it's better then what Nvidia has.
And Nvidia has their own sharpening filter, which is decent, but like you said AMDs one is better.
OP, I do find that 1080p things on a 1440p monitor are somewhat blury, and I advise against doing it, it's better to lower AA or some other settings than lower res.
But some games you just can't help but run at a lower res, but that's why AA and sharpening filters exist.
My opinon of it is, not game breakingly annoying, but you do need to adjust to the blur.
You can always try it yourself and form your own opinions too.
You can run a game in 2560x1440 (16:9) pillarboxed without issues. It's like playing on a 27".
I use a CRG9 and I really enjoy playing games on this monitor. There are some games that are not meant to be played on such an aspect ratio. But most games I have played work fine.
F.e.:
Rayman Origins & Legends can both be played at an aspect ratio of 32:9, but some levels don't trigger events therefore breaking the specific level.
Some games are specifically designed for 16:9 like Thimbleweed Park.
Your RTX 2070 Super should be capable to deliver good performance. I'm using a heavily overclocked RX 5700 (~RX 5700 XT performance level which is close to the RTX 2070 Super).
I play most of the time singleplayer games and the (avg.) FPS I get I'm content with.
You could look at 4k benchmarks to evaluate the performance of your card.
5'120x1'440 = 7'372'800 pixels
3840x2160 = 8'294'400 pixels
CHG9 has poor PPI value (<100). No recommendation from my side.
You may be able to just scale, or have the picture stretch to your screen size,
& then add some things to fix the picture a bit...
Otherwise you might be looking at playing a Game with a Black Border,
or also known as, it's like your looking through a Window, at that point
your better off, either in Windowed Mode, or possibly a new Screen...
I noticed my New 4K TV has an Octocore & Anti-Lag Support, between
the 2 of these, I was able to actually push my performance even with
a System that can't even handle 4K, & it handled it better then 1080P...
You don't have 4K, you just gotta figure out which works for you...
