i7 9700k with 1060 6gb. How much will it bottleneck?
As the title says. I'm wondering how much will the gpu bottleneck my new cpu that I will be installing later on today. I will upgrade my gpu anyways by march so I'm just trying to hold on to my 1060 with the 9700k for at least this month

I don't get why people keep asking such question. 9700K is beefy enough for any gpu on the consumer market, period.

For 1080p in most games a 1060 6gb should be fine. However it is showing it's age and some games will require lowering some visual setting to get a decent stable fps average, such as GTAV or RDR2 for example.

A gpu doesn't hold back a cpu. A cpu will perform to its fullest if the app is designed to take advantage of it. Gaming however would be help back to a certain degree by your gpu due to its limited performance in today's more demanding games.

Get ssds, one for os+apps and one for games. This helps a bit. So does having at least 2x 8gb ddr4 3200
So are you saying I can keep my 1060 6gb for a while with my 9700k until I can buy a new gpu? No technical issues or whatsoever? Just limitations
As I arleady sad you will see no negative affect. Sure the CPU may not be utilised fully compared to what it could be (Depending on games/res and settings) with that GPU but you won't have worse performance than you had with that GPU and your previous CPU. If anything you'll likely see some improvement in games. Nothing to worry about.

What do you mean? There wont be any bottleneck..you just have a weak gpu if youre not happy with performance..

Because i7 9700k is too powerful of a cpu and my 1060 6gb is like a entry level gaming gpu. Was wondering how much will it hold back my 9700k

Will depend on games, res and settings. You already know it'll bottleneck and other than OC'ing the GPU as much as you can there isn't anything else you can do until you replace it in March.

There isnt any bottleneck when a gpu runs at 99%...basically it is, but then by this logic even 2080ti will bottleneck your cpu..
Bottleneck is when your cpu is holding your gpu back but you have the best cpu for gaming..so you can pair it with anything on the market.

I play games like csgo, pubg, dota 2, league of legends, gta online, deceit on 1080p

So are you saying that I should be fine for a while? My specs are
-i7 9700k
-z390-e gaming mobo
-gtx 1060 6gb
-8gb ddr4 ram
-600w psu

You played them all before the CPU upgrade anyway and any bottleneck you'd get now won't make them perform any worse so there isn't anything to be concerned about anyway. You just won't get full potential of your CPU is all.

at 1080p60 games will be fine at or near maxed

8g of ram will not allow many background tasks before games stutter
get a matching 8g kit/dimm or a better 16g kit

no drives listed, if the os is not on a ssd it will not be as fast at it can

So I will still have the same fps count and all that?

Well if your happy with performance your 1060 is giving then sure..otherwise upgrade ram to 16gigs its pretty much standard now.

The GPU is the bottleneck, like you want it to be. The GPU will not be held back is capable of pumping out frames as fast as it can.

When gaming the GPU is what matters since this is the thing which will actually put an image on the screen.

So nothing wrong here, this system will be awesome.

i have two sticks of 4gb ram so that will make it 8gb ddr4 ram in total. Would this be okay for a while? Ram upgrade might come by next pay check. And my os is on my ssd

As I said from the other reply. I will be able to buy a 16gb kit by next pay check. Will my current 8gb ram (2x4) be okay for now too?

Sure, but if you notice some noticable stuttering in some games it could be the problem.
