Upgrading FX 6300
So I built a low end PC a while back and I'm trying to get my frames higher than 60-90. At the moment I am running a msi 970a-g43 plus, 16gb RAM, GTX 1050 ti, fx 6300, 650psu. Everyone tells me to just upgrade to ryzen and am4 buuuut money is a bit of an issue, kinda. Plus, something sentimental about this computer build. I guess my question is what could I replace to get this computer to it's best settings, without OC.

There's no point sticking with AMD FX when pretty much EVERY AMD Ryzen CPU is better.
https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-3-1200-vs-AMD-FX-8350/3931vs1489
Even the Ryzen 3 1200 beats an FX 8350.
And you can get it more or less for half the price.

So, yeah. Either go full replacement of mainboard, CPU and ram, most likely videocard as well, or stick with what you have.

Only thing you could do is get an FX 8320 or 8350
You would get a SLIGHT overall Boost, but you would be better off just saving up for a whole new system, FX isnt worth it anymore with even cheap Ryzen CPUs beating them.

that msi board it wont get the most out of a 125w fx cpu

just upgrade the cpu/mobo/ram to something better
any ryzen or i5 or better, or a newer i3 can beat the fx8

save up around $250-300

or if near a microcenter the 2600x ($110) and board will be about $65 -$20 for the combo = $170+tax

they can price match ram +tax if you find a similar kit on pcpartpicker

i think your pc is balanced well. i would not change the cpu. better buy a new whole set.

IMO if you want improvement you basically need to replace both motherboard+cpu+ram combination and gpu.
Look at what primary bottleneck is and start with those.
Upgrading cpu on AM3 IMO is a waste of money, better to save for whole new board with new cpu.

Well, you don't have to get rid of it, use it as a HTPC, or something.
Old hardware isn't useless hardware.

I know what you mean, did that a few times myself already. Built my first PC in the early 90s.
Fact is, you're at a dead end with that PC.
Putting more money into it is a waste as you can get way more performance for less money by replacing it.

true lol i guess i can give it to my wife or friend. simple entry gaming pc i guess.

keep it for a htpc build, you can stream to it from the new gaming build
upcoast 6/fev./2020 às 8:59
Because you have the gtx1050ti a new am4 cpu isn't going to do wonders, if you insist on swapping platforms settle for no lower than 8 core cpu.

Save up so you can do a Ryzen build. FX has nothing for you to upgrade to and it wouldn't help anyways.

Waste to put anymore money into anything still using FM2/AM3
