The more heat the more it will dry out.

Laptops have sucky airflow.

Try

limiting/capping fps to lower temps.

Purchase a laptop cooler

also what paste are you using > ? never saw my Arctic Silver 5 totally dry out ..even on my old old system that has an old pentium 4 in it .I just took it apart a few weeks ago , the paste was still sticky after 5 years of use .

What paste are you using and is the cooler properly mounted?
Good paste drying out isn't a problem if everything is installed correctly. It could be wrong mounting pressure or the surfaces being way uneven.

what you have should be good .. i never used it , but have read many good reviews of that paste , i have always only used AS 5 here ..dunno why its drying up , could be like Overseer suggested .. bad mounting , or improper application ??

with AS 5 i always tinted the CPU and heat sink also as suggested by the AS 5 instructions

Well that's not right. It should last years, not months. Buy something else.

i dont know if im mounting the heatsink properly but i put a bit of pressure then screw it in. there are a few spots where there isnt much thermal paste so did i put too little?

it takes several years for thermal paste to go bad
some pastes are designed to glue components together, others will stay semi liquid
the difference between the best and worst pastes is about 5c

if the laptop has problems with temps its more likely dust in the vents or bad fans
a laptop cooling pad will help, but cleaning its vents and making sure its fans spin freely will help its ability to cool as best it can

All you're doing is wasting paste, because laptops are normally quite hot.

I use either ac5 or mx4, mx4 is definitely more flexible maybe try mx4.

Consider also to undervolt the cpu. Throttlestop and Intel Xtreme Tuning Utility are two software to achieve this. The undervolt reduces heat and extends battery life. Be aware there's a learning curve to this just like if you were overclocking. I have a desktop but undervolt the cpu due to old and dubious wiring in my bldg. The downside is the undervolt does not survive the PC going to sleep so that function is disabled.

My temps dropped about 8 deg C overall with a .-165 volt offset. Of course your results will vary.
