Compatibility of cheap laptops with Steam
Hi
This is probably a really stupid question but I am not that great with computers! My partner wants to get a new laptop to have something to do work on but hasn't got a big budget. He also wants a laptop to get steam and play Stardew Valley and maybe other games not as taxing (I presume) on a computer.

The cheapest ones are generally chromebook but I have heard that they are not compatible with Steam. Is that correct and is that the same for cloudbooks like this:

work?

Also would any of these cheap ones work?

I am unfamiliar with 'Currys' but apparently they are the UK equivalent of Micro Center, who are quite trustworthy. You would do well to cross-reference with newegg who are international.

Steam isn't supported on Chromebooks without some advanced tinkering.

Those all should support Stardew Valley, but not much else.
any laptop running win 7-10 can run steam
but being able to stream or play games is a completely different story

win10s is the locked down ver with only the ms store and not able to install other programs

4g of system ram is not enough for win10 to run smooth
64g of flash storage is slower than a hdd and too small for almost any program to be installed along with win10

those are all basically 1 baby step above a chromebook
