Hardware Unboxed has already proven the 2600 with an OC will perform better in the games.
Personally whatever my CPU perform 3% better than the i5 8400 or 4% below I'd take it anyway due to the 50% better multi-core score anyway.
CPU-Z by no means is any better. It's just a performance number for that test too, but here's mine:
Single thread
i7 4790K: 451
i7 6700K: 474
My 2600X: 484.5
i7 7700K: 492
i7 8700K: 550
Multi thread:
i7 4790K: 2301
i7 6700K: 2377
i7 7700K: 2548
My 2600X: 3699.9
i7 8700K: 3701
https://valid.x86.fr/9ymnif (The numbers above are from the program, seem like the numbers on the webpage is different, anyway i7 8700K according to the webpage is 3835 so that would put me 5.5% behind.)
So I'm 0.03% behind the i7 8700K in multi-threaded CPU-Z and 11.9% behind in single-threaded CPU-Z.
.. and my cores aren't even overclocked. I don't have the best cooler (Noctua NH-U12) or the best airflow (3 80 mm weak fans) and the graphics card consume quite a bit of power (HD 6950.)
Most importantly, never try to run other tests, like y-cruncher, in which your computer looks much worse.
Neither CPU-Z or y-cruncher show the game performance BETTER THAN THE GAMES BENCHMARK TESTS HARDWARE UNBOXED HAS ALREADY RUN WHERE THE 2600 WON.
y-cruncher:
Computation time 100 000 decimals single thread: 40.641 seconds
Computation time 100 000 decimals multi thread: 7.082 seconds
Lacks meaning for me since I haven't got something to compare with though.
srsly guys drop it or take it to direct messaging or something
With an rtx2070?
No, with a GTX 1080Ti which run normal games even faster than the RTX 2070.
The only scores I've cared about are the 720p scores and the OC Ryzen 5 2600 win there.
Data: https://www.techspot.com/review/1627-core-i5-8400-vs-ryzen-5-2600/
The Ryzen 5 2600 with OC ran the games faster at 720p with a GTX 1080Ti.
For anything less than a GTX 1080Ti or at a higher resolution than 720p the difference become even less relevant but even at that the 2600 with OC and fast RAM win. For multi-threaded non-gaming loads it wins more.
If I played games at 1080p or 1440p or 2160p with a RTX 2070 my CPU would be fine relative an i5 8400. Since it is a bit behind an i7 8700K or i9 9900K it could possibly be behind there at something there.
