Ryzen 5 2600/x and a GTX 980ti
Anybody with this build? I can't decide which CPU to buy.

I have 2600X paired with the GTX1080. (which of course is more powerful than the 980TI)

These are the best CPU you can buy in the mid-range.

Currently with Intel you will have to pay nearly twice as much for a chip with slightly better single core performance and significantly worse mutli core performance. This expensive Intel CPU price is due to a Intel CPU shortage, it doesn't appear to affect the US that much (yet) prices in the EU have doubled.

What GPU you combine it with doesn't really matter. This thing can handle anything.

Ok, but should I stretch and pay $40 more for the X version? Or I'll be fine with the 2600 non x?

I would get the cheaper 2600. $40 is not really worth the slightly higher clockspeeds. You can overclock the 2600 to get the same result.

If you just want to run it at stock, 40$ more is an ok price. But if you plan on doing manual OC, might as well save the 40$ and get non-X.

Yeah, right now I was looking into that and it seems that it's better to buy the non x version and buy a better CPU cooler to overclock it with the $40 price difference
Definitely go with the 2600. It's a good chip and you can overclock later if you feel the need. Just upgrade the cooler first unless you do a mild overclock. 99% of the games out there will not even use all of what the 2600 has to offer right now.

I would upgrade that GPU eventually ,but maybe wait for Navi as there could be some good, fast, cheap cards coming.
A decent stock cooler will be included with the CPU. No need to buy a third party one.

Don't bother with liquid cooling unless you are doing it for the looks. A ultra low-end liquid cooler costs just as much as some of the best air coolers you can buy.

Would this be a good cooler http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/cpu-liquid-cooler/masterliquid-lite-120/

The 120mm AIOs are useless. They are not any different from air cooler of same price. And often are worse than one.

Ok, thanks for your help guys!
Your best option for cooling, especially under 100 bucks,

Absolutely silent and cools like a fridge. Overclocked my ryzen 1700 on all cores and stays chilly at all times.
Only when the BIOS is updated.

Get a b450 or X470 board instead.
