DS4 Controller broken?
Am using DS4 Controller with Big Picture Mode.
It seems like R3 is broken, it simply does not respond. Is something wrong with Big Picture? Or is the Controller broken?
I also a while ago used a 3rd party named SCPToolkit (pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ software, turns out it was malware) to use a DS3 on PC. I uninstalled the program, but idk if that automatically got rid of the drivers too. Could those old drivers be causing this?

Care to explain?

Dualshock 4 does not need trash like SCPtoolkit and it's binaries bundled with malware. Steam Input can control it.
https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/steam_controller/getting_started_for_players

See here how to remove the drivers:
https://github.com/nefarius/ScpToolkit/wiki/Manual-driver-removal

Most likely the controller is dead. But you never know because controllers on Windows are a mess they always have the weirdest issues.

SCPToolkit itself is fine but there are some binaries floating on the web which indeed have malware in them.

So, the person got some modified software from sketchy website? Are SourceForge and GitHub reliable?

If you get it from the official Github page, yes.
Source code of the program: https://github.com/nefarius/ScpToolkit/ Check it and compile it, this is the safest way of aquiring any software.
Precompiled binaries: https://github.com/nefarius/ScpToolkit/releases Most likely safe since this the official source, but easy to hide malicious software in it.

SCPToolkit has been dead for years. There should be some forks of it which are still maintained, but I don't know any by name.

I dunno if the SourceForge page is official. I don't like using SourceForge, it makes me think about Softonic.

It isn't malware. I used it for years with my DS3 and still with DS4's. If it was Malware you got a dodgy modified version not the official version.

Steam has native support for DS4 controllers now. Personally I switched from SCP to DS4Windows and am sticking with DS4Windows as I can configure the controller to behave the same on other platforms.

Try another way to use the DS4, Steam Native or Ds4Windows. If all other buttons including L3 work it's possible the controller is at fault.

EDIT: I still have links to the SCPToolkit and the forum saved not that I've used it for a few years

Direct link to installation location
https://github.com/nefarius/ScpToolkit/releases/tag/v1.6.238.16010

That version never once found an update available using it's automatic checks. I did disable the self checks after 6 months or so and never look for others. Worked as required so didn't need to look andf I used it for 3+ without issues

Thanks, I feel better know, I always grabbed mine from GitHub.
SourceForge one is posted from some SF stuff, so I think it got to be safe as well.

It's not dead, it's completed. I mean, it perfectly works with both DS3 and DS4 I have, also with my cheap BT dongles, no issues whatsoever, so there's basically nothing to update there either way.

The releases page states "Pre-release Beta" and the README.md has a to-do list mentioning some pretty big features like gyro control and DS4 touchpad support. The maintainer just decided not to continue the project.

Rest the controller binds/selected config. Go back to default settings and try the controller again.

Take the time to disassemble your controller and clean + lube it.

But it's still X360 controller emulation, so neither gyro nor touchpad would work well, as if the game treats controller like X360 one - it uses the mode that doesn't require those feature. Heavy Rain is one of those, it uses gyro in native DS4 more but sticks in X360 mode.
Either way, as you said, if one runs their games via Steam - there's little reason to use any X360 emulator, Steam does handle DS4.

The installer injects you with some adware ♥♥♥♥ detected by AdwCleaner as "PUP.Optional.Legacy" everytime you install or uninstall.
Also, This:

But thats not the point of my issue. That can be adressed Later.

I know it does not need them.
I just used the 3rd party before to be able to use my old DS3.
Yes, i am using Native Support / Big Picture mode.
I followed the tutorials steps and am now in the controllers config settings for GTA V
I noticed something weird: The left stick has a LS click (left stick klick) but the right stick didnt have a klick. I just loaded up the most popular Community made config preset for a DS4. Now it has an RS klick. Ill try now.

False positive. PUP = Potentially Unwanted Program. ADW especially is very agressive with this stuff it will call almost anything a PUP.

Source code: https://github.com/nefarius/ScpToolkit/ tells you exactly what the program does, check it, build it.

Do as Bad Motha suggested after making sure the old SCPToolkit driver is gone.

MalwareBytes and others will make a fit about PUP stuff all the time. Just select those pup and add to exception list or ignore list. They aren't harmful. Many free apps will be flagged as PUP due to embedded ad-ware. Not a big deal. Ads within many free apps is what makes them freeware.

Yup, setting a RS Klick finally fixed it
I have no idea why that button wouldnt be assigned by default, but atleast it works now

I decided to check what's going on there. AdwCleaner reports PUP on an empty folder cuz it's got "driver" in the name. All less reasons for me to worry about SCP, I've never been compromised by a folder so far.
