What?
To open a jar file in Windows, you must have the Java Runtime Environment installed. Alternatively, you can use decompression software, such as an unzip utility, to view the files in the jar archive.

What do you mean "manually doing it"?

run it from a terminal

Jar files can be executed from within web-browsers if you allow them to.

.jar files are packages which contain .class files.

Next time, no. Anytime you download a zip, 7z, rar... Extract all the files before attempting to run or view the files within.
let me just say that i never clicked the jar file, i only checked the .zip file
i think the OP means , he downloaded a "suspicious" zip file , that had a .jar file in it.

NO , your file will not execute without actually double clicking it , you HAVE to manually click the .jar file to start it. If you just looked in the zip or rar file then you are fine. always take the side of caution when opening "suspicious" files.

ofcourse we could just start a debate telling you to stay away from shady sites , but then again , sometimes malicious files are contained within regular software that got repacked by a 3rd party.
jar is also an older zip format
most zip apps can open it
If you were asking how to open a jar instead of executing it you can just change the extension to zip and open it.

If it was dodgy you checking IP addresses of what was connected to you is pointless.

1. Any of those IP addresses could have been spoofed to look like someone else's.
2. the risk could have been inside the file and unleashed when you run it. That could open connections to other places. After you checked making the intial check waste of time.
