Steam won't make a new folder in program files x86 because it's read only, won't let me uncheck read only
I'm trying to make program files x86 not read only so steam can make a folder in there and download my games, but it won't let me uncheck it. I'm on windows 10. Why is this happening? I have been troubleshooting on google for 10 hours and it says I should be able to change the permissions and do it. I even enabled Administrator in an attempt to uncheck read only. To no avail it revers to read only every time. What the hell? Please help. Thank you

the folder directory "C:\Program Files (x86)" is set to read only by default.
why would you change it?

you can go into it and then make a new sub folder like
"C:\Program Files (x86)\New folder"

if you want to make another steam games folder, create it somewhere else like
"D:\Games\SteamLibrary"

set steam to run as administrator

Steam most likely won't create a new folder there because it already has one.
Edit: I guess if steam is installed to a different directory then you should be able to, though I don't know cause I always install steam to the program files (x86) folder and create new folders on other drives for games.
