Dropping below 60fps with vsync?
9700k, 2070 super 16gb of 3600mhz RAM. Playing on my monitor with no v sync on destiny with ultra settings I've yet to see it hit below 78fps and that was with a full fire team in destiny 2 in sorrows harbor doing the escalation protocol like event with a ton of ♥♥♥♥ going on.

Took my PC to a buddy's house tonight who just has a 60hz TV so I put v sync on to avoid tearing. Got drops down to 56-58 rarely but they were still there. Took v sync off and let him play while I watched the fps counter and it never dropped below 60, staying at a low of 80 ish for a split second in the same event in sorrows harbor. So my question is why does v sync let the fps drop below 60 but with it off it's fine and up near 100 even with all hell breaking loose?

Vsync will cap the FPS to 60 if the TV is 60hz, and it can drop if hardware can't keep up.

But without V sync it never drops to where it does with v sync on. It literally does the same thing whether I have DSR set to upscale to 1440p on his tv or play at native 1080p. This is with in game v sync. Gonna try v sync in NCP and see if there is a difference.

vsync will only show complete frame
if the fps is below, it will show a duplicated frame to fill the one that is not ready

gsync/freesync will lower the refresh rate (tells the display to update when given a frame)

some displays are 59.97

So it's just an issue with how v sync works?

make sure triple buffering is enabled in gpu control panel
or try fast sync in nvidia control panel (uses old school vsync, keeps the gpu working incase it can draw another frame before sending the previous new one to the display) and off in games

Fast sync on his TV tears without v sync on. NCP v sync feels laggy. Weird.
