Any ASUS monitor owners who can help me?
I got the ASUS VG279Q and the problem I'm having is the monitor keeps changing brightness and contrast on its own. I looked it up and apparently it uses something called ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio, or ASCR for short. I like to use the default preset which is Racing Mode, but if I try to turn off ASCR the option is greyed out and only unlocks if I switch to any of the other modes. This is driving me nuts because I'm also a digital artist and I usually screw up colours with it constantly changing contrast.

• ASCR isn't configurable under Standard Mode or sRGB Mode in Splendid. Only SplendidPlus compatible models will work.
• ASCR isn't configurable under Racing Mode or sRGB Mode in GameVisual.

try some other mode combination
ASCR is disabled in all other modes except for the default mode which I want my monitor in to get the most accurate colours.
in the menus pick the normal profile instead of the scenes
then you can adjust the brightness/contrast/backlight yourself

if the monitor is changing those by itself, it may be bad caps or bad flash/eeprom in the display board
not an easy fix, but can be done

Take note(pictures) of all the settings in racing mode. Convert one of the other modes to "racing mode" by duplicating the settings, turn off smart contrast.

Of course, that is assuming the menu displays the actual settings of racing mode while you're in it, and lets you access them.

That is a problem as well, the default mode got most of the interesting options greyed out and inaccessible, so its impossible to emulate the settings to another mode with all options unlocked. Some of them being saturation, skin tone, and sharpness.

Well, as an update I tried matching the settings as best I could, but even with available options set on the same values there is still something different about each mode that is locked for editing. For example Scenery even with the same settings as the default mode you still get over exaggerated colours. So trying to emulate settings between modes is a no go.
I'd reset back to factory defaults on the monitor menu. Then if you want to take the RGB one and edit it, edit the preset labeled "Standard"

We are not speaking of the same monitor model because there is no such thing as standard. The default mode is Racing, and ASCR is locked in that mode.
Figured out a fix yet? If not, maybe resell the monitor and buy something suited to color processing first and gaming second?

I got this montor mainly because of the crisp colours on the IPS panel, but also to get some good gaming on it. So far the only solution for me is resetting the monitor every few days to get back base values.
