Take your cpu and gpu rated max tdp and add them together, add approx 100 watts to include motherboard + fans + drives; that should pretty much give you a realistic # in wattage you need minimum.
If your PC needs 300-400 watts then 460w should be fine of its not junk. Although I don't know any decent psu that would have 460w, so it already sounds like junk. I would never use below 500-550 watts bronze in a gaming PC, period.
GPU manufacturer's recomendations should always be taken with a grain of salt - they assume average low-quality psu with some average system configuration.
This PSU-s are usually not entirely terrible , but they are also chosen with specific system in mind and if you double overall power consumption it will be very likely to fail.
what brand/model psu is it?
often you can find a quality 550-650w psu for under $40
I wouldnt go for less than 550w-650w PSU just to be on the safe side and have some wattage left over.
That power supply equals a 550-600 watt Chinese cheapie
Dell using own PSU's with a different form factor and not that good in quality.
Also this is an inaccurate statement made out of nothing.
You can't compare a PSU quality to wattage. Wattage has nothing to do with quality. A higher quality will not be able to provide more wattage.
Even the cheapest 500W psu will be able to deliver 500W.
You just have to check on which rails.
More expensive units can do this, often becase actual components they use are rated for higher loads.
Does not mean thet cheaper PSU-s are not usable, just do not expect them to deliver full advertised power.
