USB boot not showing up
USB doesn’t show up in F12 boot menu.

Dell Inspiron 3558
BIOS is not PhoenixBIOS, but Dell one.
If Dell one is a stupid answer then it looks like a minimized window, blue purpleish bar on top, and then it has list with pluses in the beginning.

as for the op contact dell support or look up the user manual for the laptop online .. Dell bios's are indeed weird ..and many lack alot of options you'd find in a standard motherboard system bios

but it remains he probably just needs to enable usb emulation as well as wake on USB for it to even have an option to boot to a USB device

those settings may be disabled by the default bios setup settings ..again its best to ask Dell support ..or consult the manual the PC shipped with or online

fat 32 would not work for an OS install

hopefully he used the Win 10 media creation tool to make his media ..
his issue seems to be with some Dell's you have to enable USB emulation in the system bios settings before you can even see a USB drive to boot to

of coruse it work with FAT32. I do it all the time. Media Creation Tool isnt doing something different then formatting it that way. To be recognized by UEFI as bootable drive FAT32 must be used.

It should always be FAT32 if booting from usb. But it depends how it was formated as bootable, legacy vs uefi

But on laptops only the primary drive is bootable unless you actually enter the bios and enable the option to boot from another source. They do this on modern laptops for many years now to help avoid accidents from another person booting to usb/optical

I did use Win10 installation media. Also I don’t have that kind of BIOS either. The F12 menu has blue and yellow text on top.

Is this like the first time you've used a PC? Or had to deal with the bios? It's really not as hard as you making it out to be. The Dell pdf manual for your laptop should detail which keys do what and how to access the bios, how to save changes, etc.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Oh, forgot to tell you that it does not save BIOS settings, reverts everything back to stock settings. Tried updating BIOS but that really didn’t do anything but change the text to BIOS revision A19.

Have you reviewed the Dell pdf manual and/forum for your exact laptop model?
