My gtx 970 going strong in 2020 32 games looking to play forward

With only a week left until 2020 i counted how many games i played this year and they are 22 Resident evil 2 remake, Far cry new dawn, crackdown 3, metro exodus, devil may cry 5, sekiro shadows die twice, rage 2, mortal kombat 11, yakuza kiwami, yakuza kiwami 2, star wars jedi fallen order, star wars battlefront 2, Yooka laylee and impossible lair, dead or alive 6 ,my friend pedro, just cause 4, spyro reignited trilogy,(it is 3 games) gears 5, sniper ghost warrior contracts, devil hunt.
And then looked what iam going to play next! So i have Halo master cheif collection(halo 1,2,3,ost,reach,4) red dead redemption 2, darksiders genesis, Destroy all humans, kngdom hearts 3, resident evil 3, halo infinitie, battleloads, street of rage 4, deathloop,ghost wired tokyo, Disigeneraiton, Doom Eternal, ghost runner, bordelands 3(when it comes to steam), control(steam too) the outter worlds, cyperpunk 2077, vampire bloodlines 2, Avengers watch dogs legion, rainbow six quaratine, gods and monsters dying light 2. What realy impressive is that my now 5 year old and 1 month gtx 970 still run max settings 1440p 30+ fps on evrything. It has LOT of work to do! Anyone else still on gtx 970 ready tor all these amazing upcoming games?

You do know that 2160p@144fps is a thing that's not difficult to do, 2 RTX 2080 ti's will do that in modern games while you render a video in the backdground & games from about 6-8 years ago will run at 2160p@144fps on a 1080 ti.

To be honest though, I'd take 1080p@240fps over 1440p or 2160p at 144fps.
The question is not how possible it is on top end system, but how possible it is for average user. And what the user will choose given such choice - bigger screen/higher resolution, higher fps or rtx effects. Like if you want 1080p@240fps will not 2160p@240fps be better?

Displays are here, 60Hz 2160p screens are pretty affordable now, i suspect higher refresh one will become available to average users pretty soon too. GPU-s are lagging behind, and i can say personally for myself - i'd chose either higher resolution or higher fps over some fancy lighting effect any time...

That's your choice, but a lot of people have got RTX cards & are enjoying the improved visuals. You run Minecraft at 2160p, I'll take the RTX update at 1080p please.

You will have troubles with this graphics card in 2020. Consider upgrade it to at least GTX 1070 or RTX 2060.

2080 = 1080ti
2070 = 1080
2060 = 1070
1660 = 1060

The only difference really is the 2080 ti

I wouldn't be so sure the 3000 series is going to be much faster.

And that the problem. That it has been 2 years and 9 months since gtx 1080 ti release date and the only better graphics card than it is RTX 2080 TI. That why ididnt ugprade to rtx 2080 or 2080ti. While on cpus we have had huge progress with cpus like ryzen 3900x and ryzen 9 3950x on graphics card very little happend. This will change soon with Amd and Intel releasing better cards than 2080 ti at a much cheaper price. They will be announced next week on CES but Nvidia will also announce RTX 3000. Let hope that it will be something realy good and powerful worth buying. But also game graphics havent improved since then either. If we look at how a recent game look at max settigns 1440p like gears 5 star wars jedi fallen order sniper ghost warriro contracts and we compare it to how a game of around the time of 1080 ti release looked at max settings, like Mass effect andromeda resident evil 7 dead rising 4 and sniper elite 4 we see that there is not any big graphics improvement. Which explain why gtx 970 continues run at max settings 1440p 30+ fps. The only real new feature is ray tracing but most games dont have it yet.
