My router thinks Steam is DoS-ing it?
Hey gang! I realize that this isn't so much about hardware and operating systems, this is the Steam forum where the folks with technical knowledge spend more of their time.

My sister's family has come to visit. Things are getting a bit pokey, and that's probably their non-stop streaming/updating apps on all their devices (plus mine!). Looking to maybe identify the site(s)/app(s) that were using the most bandwidth I logged into my router, poked around and looked in the log.

Aha! There's a bunch of suspected DoS attacks coming from a particular range of IP addresses. Realizing that routers don't know EVERYTHING, I did a search on one of the IPs and found out that the owner is apparently Valve.

I'm about 95% sure that this is just Steam doing something it needs to do, but I also was concerned that white-listing their IP range might open me to other risks. Any thoughts on what this looks like to you? TIA!

You can ignore it. The firewall falsely blocking something isn't anything special. Your Windows firewall is doing the same all the time. If you check the logs of most firewalls it will be filled with blocked SYN floods.

So opening up those ports to Steam's particular IP range wouldn't improve Steam's performance in any way? I know that the mobile app is DOG SLOW on trades (it almost never completes when you send).
