i got a 144hz monitor, but i cant get it to 144hz.
i have my 144hz monitor connected to my pc through dual link dvi. it says online that dual link dvi is capable of supporting 144hz. but whenever i try to choose the 144hz option my monitor goes black and goes back to 60hz. i have no idea what the problem is, im thinking of getting an hdmi mini to hdmi cable. but it is still isnt clear to me if hdmi 1.4 can support 120hz or 144hz. plz help

my monitor has display port, hdmi, and dual link dvi. and my pc has dual link dvi and an hdmi mini (im not going to include vga since it doesnt support 144hz).

Im 99% sure hdmi 1.4 does not support 144hz.

Are all your drivers up to date?

Where are you selecting 144hz?
Even if it does, some displays do 144Hz only through DisplayPort, check the manual of your monitor.
i am aware that hdmi 1.4 cant support 144hz but can it support 120hz?

im pretty sure my drivers are up to date. i updated them yesterday. and i have tried selecting 144hz on both windows and nvidia control panel.

the problem is, my gpu has no display port. thats why my only option is dvi and hdmi
There can be any number of reasons why you aren't getting 144hz. But HDMI will not get you there. It doesn't carry the bandwidth. You can get up to 120hz at 1080p but no higher, and higher resolutions go down in Hz from there.
What is the monitor brand and type?
Cable quality comes into play too. Not every DVI cable is of high enough quality to carry the bandwidth that 144Hz demands.

you actually have a point. ill try borrowing my friends dual link dvi. he used a 144hz before. thank you for that.
From the companys page;

“Connect the monitor via the DisplayPort.

You could have looked this up yourself

i know that if my gpu only had a display port, i wouldnt have any problems. but too bad it doesnt. thats why im forced to choose from dvi and hdmi. and on its manual it says that dvi and display port would give 144hz. and hdmi would only give 120hz
