WHat do you think about sshd?
Pretty much title..
Im looking for a nvme and keep waiting for some reason to buy one..but now i see those sshd firecuda..pretty much they such a bit in writing and reading but in games they are much more faster that a standard hdd, close enought to a ssd by a small margin AND cost a lot less than a ssd,2tb cost me 90/100 EUro,1 tb if nvme 110 but still i don't know what to do..the price and space is juicy.

( I already have a ssd for os and some games)

They are only faster once they have cached the data. The first read will be slow like a normal HDD, each read after that will be faster.

SSHDs are ok. They are nice game drives. The Firecuda is a nice drive for the price.

But nowadays a 1TB SSD is about 30 euro more expensive then a 1TB HDD. The 30 euro extra is totally worth it for the SSD.

If you need 2TB of storage or more go with HDDs, at these higher capacities the HDDs are a much better deal than SSDs.
IMO - pointless.
Small and slow cache + less then ideal caching algorithms mean that you will get zero benefit from caching in most practical cases.
For absolute majority of task "sshd"==hdd. And that's the reason why they never became popular...
Also with the amount of RAM modern computers have 8GB of cache are kind of funny, simple os-level hdd caching which works by default is miles ahead of it...

Just get hdd if you need storage, or ssd if you need speed, "sshd" is a waste of money.
hmmm, any good hdd for mostly games? At this point i can wait a few more seconds and have more space than a ssd/nvme for cheaper price..
Any 7.2k hdd should be fine and there is no huge difference between different models or hdd-s from different manufacturers. Just get whatever size you want and make sure that it is not "cheap slow storage" model like old WD green which they now relabeled blue IIRC.

The WD Green lineup has indeed moved in to the Blue lineup. All Green drives from the last 5 years or so are SSDs. Any Green HDD is 4+ years old.
These SSHD disks - observing the reading speed - take places between the normal disks and SSDs... :steamsalty:
1-2tb sshd are good for consoles
cheap with large amount of space and good speed once the sshd learns what to cache on the ssd part

but most are a very slow hdd with tiny ssd (8-16g)

if you can afford a 512-1tb ssd, its a much better option over a 1tb sshd
and pick up a fast 1/2/4tb hdd for games

Made obsolete by affordable 1-2 TB SSDs.
They're a decent option if you can't quite afford an SSD. I've had two of these in two different rigs and they've served me well in the past. But I'm ready to add a 1TB SSD to my own rig, and I'm thinking of using my SSHD as secondary storage.
I can take a 1 tb nvme ssd, but at the same time there are those sshd for the same price but double capacity, or normal hdd for even more and cheaper(is really hard for me to find something good with 7500 rpm, most of them are 5200,even the forecuda sshd one)
Sorry guys,im having a big problem with choosing...

https://www.amazon.it/Seagate-ST3000DM007-HDD-Interno-Dimensione/dp/B075YPRCWC/ref=sr_1_1?__mk_it_IT=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&keywords=barracuda+3tb&qid=1577036862&s=pc&sr=1-1
This one is the newest one i suppose..but i don't understand if it's a 5200 rpm or 7200

https://www.amazon.it/Seagate-ST3000DM008-HardDisk-BarraCuda-Computer/dp/B01ICLGJ7Q/ref=sr_1_2?__mk_it_IT=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&keywords=barracuda+3tb&qid=1577037329&s=pc&sr=1-2

this is oldish but have 7200 rpm ( I THINK )

Ps.. if know something else feel free to link it here, from the same amazon link i send and possibly with prime on it, i don't have much time left at home, 2/3/4 Tb, no ssd/nvme this time i need pure storage power and not speed)

ST3000DM007 is indeed 5400, so the choice is obvious here.
hmm the only problem for the other one,is the shipping on 20 january lol, can't wait that much,i have to assembly an old pc for my step father for him to use in the holydays but i stole my hdd from it because well..i don't have anymore space right now
Yeah, with how large and cheap ssd-s are "high performance" hdd-s are becoming pointless => expect more "slow, 5400rpm, max storage" offers...
Do not know if they still sell them but one relatively recent model i remember is toshiba hdwe140.
just less you not got the spare SATA slots there worthless better to have a small boot SSD and a big data HDD like have. The few games that need an SSD i have second SSD for them. Best thing to do i say.
