would a q9550 work in a dell vostro 410?
ed .q9550 works with this motherboard tested, it so a dell vostro 410 can work with a q9550,
maybe just maybe a q9650 would work too.

As long as the pinout is LGA775, you shouldn't have a problem outside of bios compatibility issues.

GTX 1060 would be a waste (thats on-par with GTX 980) as systems that old won't be able to utilize that kind of GPU performance due to poor CPU; even the Quads aren't good enough; you'd need something like i7-2600K minimum to keep par with a GTX 1060
i may be looking at the 780IT for that pc or a 960 4gb
i know it would be a waste but i gotta try that and i happen to have those two gpu lying around
the 780 ti and the 960 that or i get the 1060

anyways i got a q9550 off ebay, if it works i may try a q9650, but if it dosen't ill post that here anyways.
anyhow thanks for ya time
Id stick to the 780Ti. The other two video cards you listed will bottleneck under the Core2 series Intel CPU.

760 / 960 are about the best that system could handle really.
Anything above this would basically be wasted due to CPU bottlenecks.
Changing GPU isn't really going to help make such a system sell, given its dated socket and cpus...

If the CPU in question is cheap enough, maybe grab it and try on your board, again grab and apply the latest BIOS for your system model from Dell.com/Support first though, just to help ensure the board is ready for such a change. If the CPU fails to boot, then just resell that CPU.

A Vostro 410 with a Foxconn G33 board should work with a Core 2 Quad Q6600, but I can't find confirmation that it will work with a Q9550. I'm still using a Q6600 every day for work stuff, and it will definitely be an improvement on the e7300. Also, they're less than US$10 on eBay.

i had a feeling that would be so, 780ti it is

780 Ti usually fits between a 970 and 980 in terms of performance; so it's not too bad.
Just that it will be a power hungry GPU compared to a 9xx or 10xx
780 Ti needs approx 250W-300W by itself, due its max tdp under full loads
So I sure hope you have around a 450-500W PSU

i know that's why i asked on this forms

however i did see it here https://www.techrepublic.com/blog/product-spotlight/dell-vostro-410-tower-pc/

ill try the q9550 and see if it would work, that or ill try q6700 if the q9550 won't work

Anyways to tell if the Motherboard in your Vostro 410 supports "1333 Front Side Bus"
rather than just 1066?

But how old is this PSU? If it's 10 years old, it's time for the trash bin probably.

Ok, yea more than enough of a PSU then as long as it's not fake Chinese stuff.

good news the q9550 works with this motherboard, not just that it's a big jump for this pc.

over that e7300.

did some testing with the Witcher 2, as this was the best game it could run,
and now it's set to high in the settings, and no lag what so ever.
still that's good news, for whoever may happen to buy this pc.

now i'm thinking i may try the q9650, who knows at this point, but if i do ill post it here if i do.

also to the guy who has a q6600 read cpu boss http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core2-Quad-Q9550-vs-Intel-Core2-Quad-Q6600

anyways thanks for reading
