in all honesty it is much better and only needs a slight more gpu punch.
its an odd res, but dx games will be able to use it at its native res
Once 4K becomes far more mainstream (currently only 1.14% in the hardware survey), then it's time to worry. But 1080p and by extension 1600x900 are going to be around for a long time.
1080p/144hz around 200$
20 inch is too small for good gaming experinece and they don't make any panels with good tech below 24 inch anymore. Unless we're talking laptops.
my oldest flat screen (its an old asus one ) here only has a VGA input and a DVI input ..many modern GPUs only support HDMI and display port connection ..hence you would need to find a proper adapter .
your better off just buying a decent 1080 P or better screen if you plan of gaming in the future ..and yea 20 inch is kinda limiting , i use that PC only as a TV next to my bed for steaming movies
also i have seen 1080 P screens as low as $89 bucks

I did just double check and the monitor I was looking at lacks HDMI same as my old one. I guess maybe it's just as well to upgrade to a 24" after all. Time to start rearranging the desk to make room!

40 inch 120 HZ HDTV ..sits 3 feet away from my desk on a swivel so i can game on my couch too ...
screen on my desk is a 24 inch 1080 P screen ..and yep i prefer the 40 inch .. i'll never go back to a small screen
Plenty of games still support 480p, and 720p.
I don't see why they would ever stop either, doesn't make any sense to. However, higher resolutions I can understand, because scaling is harder. (Smaller = easy, larger = harder. Because you can always reduce a piece of UIs size and it look fine, but if you make it bigger, it becomes pixelated.)
As nice as a smaller monitor is (especially at 1080p, which, to me at least, looks bad at 24 inches) having a newer, better monitor, is more important.
High refresh rate, higher resolution, better colours, better brightness, better contrast, lower input lag, faster (average) pixel response time, etc. The benefit is going to outweigh the con(s).
Most newer titles still look plenty playable, just not pretty, at 720p, well below 900P.
That said, the quality OP can gain jumping to 1080P will be pretty massive. I know the GF was very happy at the detail she gained when I jumped her up to 1080 off of 900p.
Only reason to run 900P now days would be for a lower end GPU, as its a rez that something like a GTX-480 could handle while still pushing fairly new (read BFv) titles. I have an older Asus ROG Laptop with a gimped GTX-460m-1GB model and it can *just* pull BFV at a bit above 30fps @ 900p, or GTA-V on lower settings @ 60 @ 900p.
