Safe to try Radeon RX 570 with 2x Molex to 8pin PCIE?
As titled, is it safe to try without fear to fry anything? This is meant to be test to see if that card even works with my mobo (not important for the model as this is about PSU and GPU), as these models are said to be tricky (works with one mobo and not with the other, randomly as even two otherwise identical pc may be so as to it works with one and denies other). Weaker PSU is about 250-300w and I need over 300w, according to calculations. Both are used and GPU might not even work at all, but I don't want to try PSU with GPU if it can fry it. I can live if it won't power GPU, but I don't want to fry it. I have searched web and it came as about 75% to 25% that it works, but that rest saying it will fry is not comforting. I said 2x Molex just to confirm that it actually has 2 molex holes and not just 1, just to be sure.

Stuff:
GPU: MSI Radeon RX 570 ARMOR 4G OC (customer return)
PSU: SL-500 Switching Power Supply (possibly by Inter Tech, PSU does not say) with 500W
Adapter: 2x Molex to 8pin PCIE (pic for specification: )Thanks, especially if you can give some proof if it works or not (even other websites that can confirm it).[matrixwarehouse.co.za]

I would invest in a new quality psu. Idk if it can fry something, but that it doesn't have the connectors to power a gpu without using adapters doesn't sound trustworthy to me in general

You have the voltage, but very low on amps, as everything that uses molex requires 3 or less amps.

Exclusive pci-e power connector can go up to 30amps..

I wouldn't do it, but its your call..

Get a new PSU. I did a similar thing back in the day and the PSU would shut off from being overworked.

Thank you all for the insight. However, as I mentioned it, it is only for test, as in mostly plug in, power up, wait for image / indication card works and power down. No gaming, no videos, sound test at max (using windows sound mixer/manager). Is it safe to try? I would not want to buy new PSU if connectors with GPU can be tricky if it is missing something important, as only having 6pin(not 6+2) while needing 8pin or having max 8pin while needing 6+6.

Get a new PSU. CX 550W is at a good price right now.

but what do you want to test then in the first place? why should the card not work with your mobo if I understand the op correctly? just get a new psu and enjoy gaming

I want to test if it even works. It was bought used so actual working condition is unknown as my weaker one cannot provide enough. If you search net you can find that this model for some reason works with others and not with others. If I can test it, I know if I need to get new psu only or both gpu and psu.

You do NOT want to cheap on a PSU, yours is pretty bad. A bad PSU can kill other parts.

So there is a change that just a test can fry?

just try it, there is also a chance that you get struck by lightning while sitting on the toilet
MordecairRaisin 22 ENE 2020 a las 15:11
I can live with no enough power from PSU to GPU, but I don't want to live with double that it might have worked with my mobo and I fried everything / something. It would also be for future reminder that you should not try adapters for this case, if there is some confirmation that it does fry.
MordecairRaisin 22 ENE 2020 a las 15:14
Yes I know I am stubborn with this, but after fighting for so long with this I just want to see any confirmation as to should I keep fighting with this one card or just give up. I sent more money on it than I liked so i do not want to just throw it away. As these cards are jokers, there is no real way to test it without trying.

You do you, man, yes it may eventually kill your card.

Damn, well thanks everyone.

Those power adapters that come with gpu should never be used. If you have to resort to that, you obviously need a better psu. As even a modern 400 psu would have at least one 6/8 pin for a gpu.

Buy a decent psu that's at least 80+ bronze certified and at least 520/550 watts... evga, corsair, bequiet, seasonic. If the psu doesn't have at least 2x 6+2 pin for gpu, don't buy it.
