Help !
My pc frame rates aren’t to great and I don’t know what I can do to improve this

I have a dell XPs 420 with 8gb of ram, gtx 770 and a qx9650 3.ghz processor

I know it’s an old machine but surely with the hardware I shouldn’t be facing 30 FPS

Would the screen impact this as I do use a led 24inch television on hdmi port

Hoping some suggestions can help me out

Thanks

Which games?
What your screen resolution?

The only way to gain performance / FPS is by lowering the game settings, and using a lower screen resolution. Ensure you don't have anything in the background hogging your system resources.
csgo
pubg
ring of elysium
fortnite
modern warfare
gta

I dont keep the game settings high to be fair I did have a gtx 950 2gb and bought that not expecting the greatest of performance but definetely expected better when putting in the gtx 770 4gb. my screen resolution is 1360x768
I try to keep my pc simple and really do only use it for gaming so I am really not sure where else my performance could be
Doesn't surprise me that you are getting low fps. Your hardware is ancient and will struggle with modern games.
What do you recommend Dave ?
Alright some of those games make sense to get ~ 30 ~ FPS in them for intensive CPU usage, but I think it might be your CPU holding you back. But if you're having problems in CSGO, and Fortnite, then i'm not 100% sure if it's the CPU is the problem. Do you have any apps running in the background like broswers, or etc?
You're cpu bottlenecked in most of those games.
The Q9650 is just too weak due to those games being heavily cpu-performance dependat.

Fortnite and CS GO: hugely 1 to 2 core performance dependant, you are running 100% on one or 2 cores.

GTA V, PUBG: hugely multi-core dependant. The 4 weak cores is just not sufficient and you're running all of them at 100%.

Ring of Elysium: Early Access game with Early Access level of optimization, might be using only 2 cores.

In addition, you might be thermal throttling.

You have a CPU bottleneck.
Your system is old enough that you really don't have any sensible upgrade options. It sounds like you're in the market for a new system if you're not happy with performance.
I have run through some settings just now and there is improvement

CSGO is at 100+
GTA is fine visually and performance wise (cant find fps)
Fortnite is pretty much locked to 60fps with 16ms
R.O.E is early access and having frame issues apparently
PUBG 30-40

I would like to hope it is my QX9650 cpu

I dont plan on using the machine for much longer, It was just a machine i wanted to put together after gathering dust for a few years of not working as Ive had some good memories with it
I shall just keep tinkering around with it and monitor the performances and see how it goes

Thanks for all your help guys !
If you need help picking out parts in the future just ask, and someone will help you out.

Well the CPU is extremely old. Even a modern 8th or 9th gen i3 would stomp it easily. The GPU is pretty old too, mid-high range from 2013. You could always migrate the GPU to a new system, but it's much closer to needing an upgrade than not.
Try older titles like HL2 and souce based games / mods e.g. team fortress / red orchestra they should run a bit better
3ghz on a 10+yr old cpu is not nearly the same as 3ghz on a modern cpu

i5 7400 and your cq2 are both 3ghz with 4 cores

the new i5 is about twice as fast
